UQUQUQ

This is the Great Court, the original part of campus, and where I spend most of my days.
After two and a half months of sweet nothingness, I have finally started to attend classes again for (possibly) my last semester. Since I've completed all of my required courses at PSU, I have decided to take courses that are really of interest to me and will also give me a better understanding of the country I am living in. So, my schedule consists of Contemporary Australia, Indigenous Art, Anthropology of Indigenous Australia, and Marine Environment. Read: My schedule consists of watching Australian television, frequenting art museums, visiting a few Australian historic sights, and, of course, snorkeling.

Don't worry Mom and Dad, I'm sure I'll learn something besides which strength of sunscreen works best for me.

The atmosphere of the school is pretty laid back. Not only do we have a bar on campus, but I've also seen multiple students breeze into class without shoes on. I love this place! Every Wednesday is Market Day and there are different vendors selling a variety of goods ranging from protest pins and second hand clothes to fruits and veggies.
One difference from American schools is that there is not a very strong presence of campus organizations or clubs, which you know I'm usually all about! We visited the Club Fair during O Week but didn't find too much we were interested in or willing to shell out membership fees for. However, I was seriously interested in joining the Canoe Club (they actually kayak - the name is quite the misnomer) and even went with a friend to the "Come 'n' Try" day. We kayaked up and down the river (i.e. maybe a quarter mile...so I exaggerate!) and I was really surprised at how hard it was. I had a very hard time keeping straight and found myself constantly drifting right. You also had to be sure to steer clear of the City Cats and we can't forget about the Bull Sharks in the river! But all in all I loved it and was ready to sign up then and there until I realized I already had trips planned during all of the club's events. Atleast I got to try!

You'll always find kids out here reading between lectures...or walking to class barefoot!

gota love uni
Sounds a lot like our UK unis to me and I'm aliking what I'm hearing. Plenty of bars (reminds me of my mis-spent youth in Milton Hall the student union bar in Huddersfield) and no pesky activity clubs. What more activities do you need when you have sun, sea, sand and booze??

Hi Lisa Following your travels with interest, fascination and envy. Just want you to know I'm thinking of you - enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Just a thought for next week - do they do chocolate eggs in Oz for Easter?? Whether or not - may the Easter Bunny be kind to you. Much love Linda xxx
