Me with baby llama
This llama was only 11 days old! Here it is, the answer you´ve been waiting for:
Llamas are the "work horses" of the camel-cousin world. They are taller, live in herds of 1 male with many females, and have shotty useless hair. You don´t want llama meat. They come in all colors and are domesticated. They are also dressed up or decorated with tassels on ears, etc so you can take a picture with them (all over the cities and towns) for a small fee. 15 live at Macchupicchu.
Alpacas are the furrier smaller yet fatter relatives. You can eat them, although all the alpaca steaks I´ve had have been quite fatty and hard to chew. They don´t taste like chicken (or steak or anything else I´ve ever eaten). They come in all colors, are domesticated, and wander in heards of 40 or more. I bought an alpaca sweater and it smells funny when its wet.
Vicuñas are the royalty of the camel world. They live in a nature preserve, can´t be hunted, and have the BEST wool (1 kilo can cost up to 2,000 Euros!). They are only light brown on top and much lighter on their underside. I saw some from a bus.
Guanacas look like vicuñas but have black on their legs and ears. I saw a picture of one in a museum.

That is hilarious. I never knew this! Marcus' housewarming party is tonight so I was just thinking about you. I'm going to try to convince Em that we should have dinner at P Moon first. We'll have a beer for you. :) I'm so jealous that you're out there doing this! Hope you're doing well. Love, Jenn
