Today we woke up to a gorgeous day here in Newport. Probably the nicest day since we got here. Jessica and Tanner did a couple of hours of school work while the rest of us busied ourselves with getting ready for the day. 2 hours later we loaded the minivan with sweatshirts, sandwiches, waters and various snacks, we decided to take full advantage of this beautiful day and drive to Cape Cod, Massachusetts's. The drive was gorgeous and relaxing. We made it to what is called the Upper Cape in about 50 minutes. We drove into a small town and went to the first beach we saw. This kids were hungry and anxious to see the beach. After walking around, we found an area out of the cool breeze and had a picnic lunch. The seagulls were our best friends and Lilly's too. She must have fed them 4 slices of bread. We all enjoyed watching her. After downing some sandwiches and treats, we drove through many quaint little towns, continuing on up the cape. We pulled into a parking lot with a ferry to Martha's Vineyard, but it was packed and

LILLY FEEDING THE SEAGULLS. there were no guarantees of us getting back tonight. Martha's Vineyard is on an island all by itself and the only way to get there is to drive your car onto a ferry and it takes you there to drop you off. We continued to make our way to what is referred to as Mid Cape enjoying all the quaint little towns. Found another beach where we discovered a newspaper with an ad on the back about a restaurant called Captain Parkers, claiming to have won an award for the best clam chowder. Not only are we suckers for great marketing ads but we have been searching for the best chowder. We made the phone call for directions, found the restaurant and enjoyed awesome thick and creamy New England Clam Chowder. Tanner loves it the most, Lilly and Emma each have their own and eat it all up and of course Ty and I have had a cup at every restaurant we have been to since we have been here. Jessica is the only one not fond of it. After our bellies were full and warm, we were on the road again, only this time heading back to Newport. We

PAINTING WITH THE COUSINS AT THE CLAYROOM. hated to cut our day trip so short, but my brother, Kevin and his 3 kids would be joining us for the long weekend in Newport, so we had to be home for his arrival. After we got home, we made a quick dinner of pasta alfredo and italian salad. Kevin, Emily. Gracie and Jack showed and the cousins headed upstairs to play. We had a great day and hope to spend more time at the Cape next time we are here.

Kevin was up early and out of the house by 6:00am to work at the airport in Providence. We were so lucky to have all 3 of his kids to ourselves. We also woke up to RAIN! Not just rain, but wind and lots of heavy rain. We let the kids play all morning. What fun they had making up games and enjoying each others company. Everybody had a bath and we loaded up in the minivan, drove to the Clayroom where everyone picked out a piece of pottery and painted it. They all had fun on this blustery weather day. While they painted, I ran to the grocery store across the street

CRAZY COUSINS. to get a few items. When I got back, Ty headed out to pick up lunch. After everyone was done painting, we headed home to eat our grinders. All were happy. Kevin and Amy met us later in the evening at the clubhouse where we enjoyed cocktails and some fine dining while the kids played in the game room downstairs, where a babysitter met all their needs. What a treat it was for us to get some adult time with each other. It was nice to get Kevin and Amy all to ourselves for awhile too.Kevin is so witty and has such a great sense of humor, he kept us all smiling. We were all home by 10:00pm and everyone was in bed by 10:30.

When I woke up the house was so quiet, that I took advantage and read a little from the book Tanner and I are reading together. Emily was the first one up. We snuggled on the couch by the fire for a while, chitchatting about her friends, school and her favorite things to do. I discovered how much she really loves horses and hopes to own one one day. A NEW PIER BEING BUILT JUST AROUND THE CORNER FROM OUR HOUSE. all kids and adults were up, we made a plan what to do for the day. It was once again another gorgeous day, even nicer than the day we went to the Cape. Tanner met a friend at the Clubhouse named Will and was invited to attend his basketball game and spend the day with him. He was so excited and needed some time with a boy his age. The rest of us loaded up in our minivans and made the drive into Newport for the afternoon. Our goal was to hand pick some lobsters and steamers for dinner tonight. The town was packed. When we were here earlier in the week, the town was dead, but with the nice day and the weekend, everyone was out and about. We drove right to a place called Aquidneck, where Kevin and Ty picked out 6
1 1/4 pound lobsters and a bag of steamers. We dropped them off in the car and walked the town with all the kids in tow. We found a nice restaurant called The Black Pearl to have lunch. Both Lilly and I ordered our usual clam chowder and enjoyed every bite. Everyone else had a yummy,

FUN BOAT PLAYGROUND ON THE GOLF COURSE OF CARNEGIE ABBEY. juicy thick hand patted fresh hamburger. Back to the car, where we drove to a beach on the way home that had a nice playground. The kids played for hours right on the playground on the beach. It was neat. Kevin, Amy and Ty walked 3 miles on Cliff Walk, where they walked along a nice path of the beach and walked right past the mansion we toured the other day. Back at home, we rested up. Kevin soaked the steamers, which are clams, in water and vinegar and I put the bag of lobsters in the refrigerator. Tanner made it home from his new friends house and filled us in on his fun day of sports. Kevin steamed the clams and we all enjoyed feasting on them. When a clam is cooked it is made up of a neck and a belly and you are suppose to dip the whole thing in butter and eat it up. Ty and I decided we liked the neck the best, but Jack loved the belly so he ate all of ours. Kevin then steamed the lobsters for about 40 minutes, showed us how to break the lobster open, get out the meat.

LOVEBIRDS, KEVIN AND AMY. YUMMY is all I can say. We enjoyed each and every bite and learned a lot too. The kids ate Macncheese before us and were up playing while we ate our lobsters. We tucked everyone in and went to bed.

Everyone slept in a little this morning, but Jack. Ty was up early and had Dunkin Doughnuts waiting for us. The kids played most of the morning, then everyone got ready, we headed to the clubhouse game room, where the kids played while Ty picked up their pottery at the Clayroom. All the kids were happy with their pottery pieces. Kevin and Amy decided it was time to head home. We gave our hugs and kisses and sent them on their way. We headed to a place just down the road called Cindy's Cafe and enjoyed some breakfast for lunch.
One last stop on the way home at a place called Patriots Park, where monuments were dedicated to a battle that happened right where we were standing. The battle was known as The siege of Newport and the Battle of Rhode Island. This was the first battle where colored men fought and were granted their

Tomorrow we will make the drive into Boston where we will stay for the week. We are all anxious to be in the big city again.....
