our beat-up ride. and the perilous terrain on the road.
hello all once again!

its been a good couple of days now that we commenced our stint in cambodia. now in the quaint little town of siem riep, home to the proverbial angkor wat. dont quite know where to start cos its now a vortex of sentiments after basking in the rustic charm of this place. reaching the peripheral limits at the thai border of aranyaprathet after 5 arduous hrs on the train on 3rd class hard seats was not all that bitter a pill to swallow, assuaged by the luxury of rubbing shoulders with the local dudes, with their fowl and kids in tow aboard the carriage. further negating the ride was also a smooth border crossing to poipet at the cambodian limit,we got stamped out of thailand and into cambodia in a matter of minutes. before the most deranged car ride overland for 3 hrs on a toyota camry 'taxi', on a road that was littered generously with potholes, mud tracks from landslides, and more potholes. to compound the journey, the degree of visibility in front of our ride was a paltry 5-10 m, thru' a cracked windscreen no less haha. heres a bit of trivia; word has

intricate and exquisite carvings that line the walls of angkor
it that a shady character of anonymous identity pays to have the roads in such a desolate sate in a bid to monoplize his mafia-ran toyota camry taxi service.

ok so fast forward 3 hrs later, we arrived in siem riep. limps and appendages intact. an idyllic town caught in transition between 3rd world despondence meets a new dimension ready to embrace the foreign entourage; and still trying to find that optimum equilibrium. got ourselves a stellar deal for usd4/night with a/c, hot water in the shower, and CABLE tv. so i can catch man yoo-liverpool tonight haha. so ystd we did a day-long trip to the revered angkor empire, showcasing its opulence and grandiose with nationalistic pride. at its height, the angkor empire spanned across regions far and wide, sprawling even to thailand and burma. it was stupefying; an engineering marvel that remains an enigma of intrigue and poise even today. we made our way arnd the complex with relative ease, visiting the wats erected as a fitting tribute to their gods and rulers, with angkor wat being the pinnacle of its prowess.

so today is our last in siem riep, before we make our way to

the capital phnom penh tmr. think andy and terence went to cycle somewhere, so its my own musings to myself for the afternoon. muchos thanks for the msgs yet again. it bridges the distance away from home. so til i update in phnom penh. be safe and be good at home! chowww.
