Borat?
Good to see he was being sun-smart and wearing a broad brimmed hat! Following right on from our last post, our minivan rolled into the beautiful beachside town of Ao Nang in Krabi Province. I wasn’t felling much better, but managed to make the trip without being sick. After a light lunch and a restful afternoon, we ventured down to the beach not far from our guesthouse. We walked past the main beach which was pretty spectacular, but full of boats and tourists. We continued walking and eventually found our own ‘piece of paradise’. A small cove, shielded by a large cliff which made the perfect viewing area for a beautiful sunset.
By this time I was feeling better, and my appetite had well and truly returned. We ventured down the main esplanade for our customary cheap meal which we had come to expect everywhere in Thailand, but were disappointed to see that prices here were about double what we had been paying elsewhere. As we continued to search for a more affordable restaurant, we discovered the reason prices here were so high. Blondes. Everywhere! For whatever reason this was the place to be for Swedish people, whose strong currency seems to mean they don’t mind paying extra. We eventually found a cheapish

My heart will go on and on... place, but the food wasn’t great. We both ordered what we thought were curries with rice, but they turned out to be curry flavoured rice!
The following morning we were early to rise, as our whole group had booked a speed boat to take us island hopping. Not knowing much about Krabi and the surrounding islands, Alicia and I had initially wondered whether we really wanted to go. But by the end of the day when the boat was ready to bring us home we were dying to stay longer! We visited Ko Phi Phi Don, Ko Phi Phi Leh & Bamboo Islands and as you can see from our photos, they are all simply beautiful. We were also taken to ‘the beach’ beach, where the film The Beach was set (confused?). It was a beautiful beach with the softest white sand and crystal clear water, but never before have we seen so many tourists per square meter of beach! We snorkelled around these three islands, in the reefs filled with beautiful tropical marine life. It was Alicia’s first time snorkelling and she took to it like a fish to water… well after a few hesitant starts! After 7

This is where we stopped for lunch hours in the sun, we returned exhausted and sunburnt, even though we were constantly reapplying sunscreen, such was the ferocity of the sun in this part of the world.
The next day we rested in Ao Nang in an unsuccessful attempt to return my heart to its regular rhythm. The last thing I wanted was to be stuck in a foreign hospital, while the rest of the group continued their trip to Singapore without us. Luckily, somewhere around the Thailand/Malaysia border it corrected its self and went back into perfect rhythm. This was a huge relief, as we had already planned to go to hospital that night in Penang, our destination for the following two nights.
