Edit Blog Post
It has certainly been a while since I have blogged last. I hope that now I will be able to catch you up on what I have been doing. I will start first with what I am actually doing here. The main purpose is for me to do my internship. I have met with two different professors here about that matter. The first one is someone who I have been in contact with ever since I started thinking about coming here. The other professor is my supervisor for my internship. I will be in contact with her about where I am doing it at, as well as how it is going for me. After meeting with both of them, I still do not know where I will do my internship. I meet with my supervisor professor again on the 31st, and hopefully I will have more details at that point. I also will start a class this week. It will be only about once or twice a week, but it will be all day. I will hopefully start my internship mid February. So, that is what I will be doing, no as for what I have been doing...
Every day
has been different for me, each holding another different adventure. Most days, I do not know what it holds until I get there. This just makes it all that more interesting 😊 The apartment buildings that are near me are basically all international students. One thing that I have learned here is that international students like to hang out. Random nights my roommate and I will go over to another students flat and hang out, and we have had a few people over here as well. I have been able to get to know a few students this way. A few of my friends back home know a few friends over here, so I have contacted them and met with them as well. It is always nice to know that I can call someone who knows some Finnish!
I also enjoy finding the different free events available around town. Every Wednesday at noon, they have an organist come and play. I have only been there once so far, but it was very good. I also went to a concert at the Orthodox Church this weekend. There were singers from surrounding churches. I didn't understand any of the songs, but they

Now this is an uncomfortable bed! I am glad that I do not have to sleep on that! were all very good. And the Orthodox Church is beautiful. From the outside it looks a lot bigger than it actually is on the inside - the same was for the Lutheran cathedral. Nevertheless, the church was still amazing. Unfortunately because I was there during a concert I was unable to take any pictures. Maybe another day.
I also went to Turku for the day! I had a free day, so I got on a train and went to a random town. Turku was the original capital of Finland. I read somewhere that Russia moved it to Helsinki so that they could keep a better eye on it. The first thing that I saw in Turku was a castle! I have never seen one before, so it was cool! Although - there was not a lot within it. It was still a cool experience. After that I headed over to an open aired museum, which is a museum outside looking at different old buildings. Turku has been burned down over 70 times! However, this museum is the only place that has not been burned down! When I got there, I could not find the entrance, so I walked all the

When I finally got back to that first place, I realized that they are closed for the next 2 months! The saddest part was that their last day was the day before! I had missed it by one day. I was able to get a picture through the fence though. I might have to visit Turku again later... After not going to the museum, I went to the Cathedral they have there. It was a really beautiful church. I arrived towards the end of a service. So I heard about half of a Finnish service. They did have beautiful music though. It seems to be everywhere I go, beautiful music. I also ended up walking all over town! It was easier than trying to figure out what bus to take. I didn't even get lost! However, by the end of the day I was completely exhausted!
And then there are the stories of being in a whole different world. I went shopping for food one day and really wanted some chicken. Unfortunately, I couldn't read Finnish
and couldn't find it! I did come across some pizza though! And it looked like it was chicken; of course I did not know because it was in Finnish, not English. A few days later or so, I cook it - only to find out that it was FISH pizza, not chicken! 😱 And yes, I did eat it. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I guess it is common to have tuna fish on pizza here. A group of us made homemade pizza the other day, and I had it again. Crazy, huh? They also have tuna with different sauces that you can get. I tried it with tomato sauce. It was not the best, but I ate it. Let's just say that once was enough for me. I just take it as part of the experience here.
I also have been teaching myself to knit. So far, I am nowhere. I found a website that teaches you how, and that has been some help. But I always get to a certain point and then I get so confused as to what to do next. I think I might need to find someone who knows
how to knit here so that they can help me.
Well, that is it for the most part. I will try to do better with keeping this up to date.
