Hola chicos!
Welcome to my first ever travelblog! Its the 4th day of my trip and i´ve finally managed to get to an internet cafe to get this thing started!
Buenos Aires is amazing, I´ve totally fallen in love with it - finally I have found somewhere that could rival Paris as my top city! After a bumpy start to my trip - plane cancellations and delays - I finally made it to BA, and since Ive been here I´ve had such a great time. Having been so worried about travelling alone, I was so relieved on my first night at the hostel to meet another 2 fellow solo travellers, Stephan and Helen, who I went for dinner with that night. We went to a lovely restaurant in the Palermo distrct of BA which Stephan (a chef) had been to before and said was the best steak he´d eaten in his life...and he wasnt kidding! It was absolutely enormous - half a cow, but delicious - melt in the mouth! It would definitely be a tragedy to come to this place a vegetarian!Had a lovely evening - great place, good food, lovely red wine and wonderful company - a great start to the
trip!
The following day Helen and I hooked up with 2 really sweet Brazilian guys - Rubens and Thiago - to form our wee gang of 4. We spent the perfect day together visiting Palermo - the Botanic Gradens, Rose Garden and beautiful Parks in the area, and spent the afternoon soaking up my first South American rays - life is good!I tried my first empanadas - like argentinian pasties, yum! Then sat night was party night!Back at the hostel we hooked up with everyone else - 2 Ozzie guys (Anthony=REALLY HOT!), a couple of French guys, Italians, 2 Swiss girls, Delia (lovely English girl, also fellow solo traveller with almost as much luggage as me!) and the incredible Gerry! You have to see this guy to believe him, he´s toatlly nuts - a wild eyed irish guy who been on drugs so much of his life that his eyes just no longer focus and are constantly rolling about in his head, giving him a totally demented look, but he is so sweet, and the life and soul of the party - i love him! After a few hours drinking in the hostel, we headed out to possibly the most amazing
club i have ever been to - Opera Bay. Sitting on the harbour, it looks like the sydney opera house, hence the name! Inside it was so cool - really chic, 4 huge rooms playing diff types of music, and the piece de resistance - half the club below water level, with glass walls, so it felt like we were dancing under the sea - totally amazing and surreal - 20 points!True to form, i got totally wasted (topped only by Gerry) on tequila shots, but photographic evidence shows i had a great time!It was the most surreal experience dancing under the sea, then upstairs first under the stars and then watching the sun come up over the harbour...beautiful, and def best clubbing experience I´ve ever had...beats abc anyday!
We staggered home sometime around 8am, to catch a few hours of sleep before heading out into San Telmo for a lazy day of brunch, shopping and tango-watching. It was the perfect Sunday afternoon - brunch in a really pretty little cobbled street filled with cute cafes, with 4 other solo female travellers - me, Helen, Delia, Carla and Sam. It was so strange to think we´d all found ourselves
in the same place, same situation at the same time - really comforting that i´m not the only one crazy enough to be doing this trip! They´re all lovely girls, I´m so lucky to have made such great friends straight away!We then strolled round the famous antiques market of San Telmo before watching tango in the El Balcon bar in Plaza Dorrengo over a cortado or 3!
Last night was Helen´s last night in the hostel as she moves in with a family today to start a 2 week spanish course, so Helen, Delia and I went for dinner in a gorgeous little restaurant - El Farmacia - just round the corner from the hostel, where we feasted once again on Argentina´s famous steak and red wine - the perfect end to the perfect day!
Today I´m going to Recoleta with the boys to visit the famous cemetry where Eva Peron is buried, then going to try and visit some museums, altho it is tempting just to spend the day sunbathing and soaking up the rays in the 30 degree heat...oh well, plenty of time for that on the rest of the trip!
So tchau for now and
here´s some pics of my first days in BA to make u all jealous! With my new friends Helen, Rubens, Thiago, Carla, Anthony, Gerry, Delia....
