Clearing Up
The skies over Koh Phi Phi clear as we arrive for our second stay on the island. Everyone left Ko Yao in high spirits after a joyous Christmas in paradise. I, however, left Ko Yao not feeling so good. Trevor departed a few days earlier, but he left me with some sort of bug/disease. At first I was just tired, and my body felt like I was really old, my joints hurt and my bones hurt.. somehow... I just slept it off and hoped for the best.
We arrived at Koh Phi Phi on the 29th and were able to secure a beautiful pair of bungalows on the east coast of the island. This quieter side was anjoyed by us all, and we were surprised at how nice the beach was over here. An awesome coral reef extended out all across the beach and housed dozens of different fish and sea life. I personally saw a Lion Fish, which is quite a sight and apparently a rarity around there (google it, it's pretty awesome)
I was just taking it easy in the bungalow, lying around reading, eating and chillin, doing what I do best. Later the first night I started getting a headache and felt really tired. I slept through it, though not comfortably. I woke
Rantee Beach
The beach that we spent several days enjoying, or at least everyone else did. up the next morning and it was my Mom's birthday, and coincidentally her twin sister's Birthday too! They all went and had a nice breakfast while I laid in the room trying to make the hurt go away. I was surprised by a nice breakfast, but that only took my mind off things for a bit.
Jason and Jodie went into town to get Jodie's bag that was left behind on the ferry, and also see when Ryan would be arriving from Bangkok as he just got back from Christmas in Vancouver. They arrived back at our beach in the afternoon with Ryan, but without Jodie's bag, which was apparently back in Phuket waiting for her to pick it up. That night we celebrated my Mom's birthday with a great feast of fresh squid, and less exotic dishes for the more tame of our group.
I took a bunch more minor painkillers, but they did little to combat the ongoing battle in my head. I tried to sleep, but I couldn't even put my head on my pillow or a surge of pain would shoot up the back of my head, very migraine-esgue. I was in a pretty
Morning duties
I catch up on my journal writing and start my new journal! Often distracted by the beautiful waters in front. rough place. In total I may have slept an hour that night.
The next day, New Year's Eve I went into town with Jodie and my parents where I crawled to the hospital with a throbbing headache, unlike anything I've ever experienced. They quickly diagnosed me, gave me a painkiller injection in my heiny, and some codeine in a cup. Within 10 minutes or so the pain was subsiding, and before I realized it, I had fallen asleep. Having barely slept for 2 days it was a relief to simply close my eyes without pain. I was woken up a while later by my family who had gone cruising the town while I was incapacitated. For the first time in a while I was without pain, and therefore feeling great. The doctor gave me heaps of Codeine and some other pain drugs which I gladly accepted. I had some chocolate banana peanut butter crepes (soooo good) and we hopped on a longboat back to our bungalow.
I was a new man after that trip. Apparently I was just getting “bad headaches” which is a little sketchy of a diagnosis, but if I hadn’t had a fever, which I
Breakfast by the Beach
On one of my rough mornings breakfast was magically delivered from the restaurant - Thanks Dad didn’t, then apparently things should clear up soon. Content, I was able to enjoy our last two days on the island without pain. I did however, opt out of the New Years celebrations considering the drugs I was taking, and the even worse headache I would have felt the following morning. Oh well, it’s just New Year’s?
Jodie caught a ferry from the island on New Year’s Eve which brought her back to the mainland from which she began her series of flights to return her to Cincinnatti. Unfortunately she couldn’t stay for New Year’s because school and training start pretty early over there. It was great to travel with her though, miss ya Jode!
On the 1st, we went for a day long snorkeling trip around the island and got to see tons more awesome fish, and even some sharks. We laid around the next day before catching a ferry ourselves over to Phuket. Mom and Dad are continuing their vacation at some fancy resort over there until the 7th when they fly back home to Vancouver.
Jason and Ryan and I tried desparately to find a same day bus up to Bangkok but this country is
New Longboat
This local spent quite a bit of time refurbishing his longboat. It's a beauty! (Mom and Dad on the left side) so busy right now with tourists that it was impossible. With a stroke of luck though we found some sort of ghost bus to Bangkok which costs 3 times the regular price but gets the job done. Before leaving we had dinner at some local hip restaurant where everyone cooks all their dinner in this weird wok/fondue contraption at the table's centre. Of course we made fools of ourselves trying to blend in with the crowd, mixing god knows what into this fondue pot. Good news was that you could take as much of anything as you wanted. Bad news was that we don't know if half our raw food got cooked properly... The next few days will let us know I'm sure.
Tomorrow we catch a ride over to Cambodia and begin our tour of Indochina. Cambodia, Vietnam (pick up Trevor) and the mountainous area of Laos. A new year means a new itinerary, and we’re up for the challenge!

Happy New Year Everyone!
