Got my luggage this morning. Straight home after for shower and change. Felt like that Tom Hanks character in Castaway afterwards, after when he´s rescued. Or The Elephant Man when they put him in a suit, although he was still quite ugly, poor chap. But given that bump on my head from the embarrassing incident (Stop telling people, Elizabeth) it´s a fitting comparison.

I should have mentioned earlier perhaps that Cusco is great. And, if you´re going to visit, June is the month to do it. It´s festival season. You can barely turn a street corner without being confronted by hordes of dancing Peruvians (some of them adorable little kids), parades with floats or music of some sort. The main square is packed every night. The architecture is lovely. I´m not sure Inca masonry will ever cease to amaze me - the precision and complexity is staggering. Such a shame the Spaniards pulled so much down. The Inca Museum was brill. One of those where you go into the first room and say, "Ooh, look, a small broken bit of pot with paint on one corner which looks like it might have been the foot of a cat or something" and then it gets so much better and by the end you´re striding through not giving a second glance to the most ornate and beautiful things. The Vatican was like that too, except that you finish at the Sistine Chapel, which it´s impossible to be blaze about. I often think, though, that museums should be gone around in the opposite direction.

Pal Alice and her bloke Chris have arrived (luggage and them within the space of an hour, so good) and we´ve moved to a hostel right at the edge of town, in San Blas for those who´ve been, with stunning views over the city. I´ll put a picture on here.

My Dad has sent me a comforting email saying it´s good that bad things happen as it makes my stories more interesting, so I´ll and get attacked by a llama or something.

Beamish this bloggin malarky is great fun! Lovin (where have all my gs gone) your entertaining entries - esp liking the refreshing lack of smugness of your travel accounts! I feel no sense of jealous resentment and instead am enjoying reading them through thoroughly. Ive got to say, I completely agree with the travel pillow phenomenon. I got one a couple of years ago and although I was mercilessly mocked for havin the thing attached to my neck, I couldnt hear the jeers cos I was fast asleep in the lovely land of nod. Have fun and dont speak to any dodgy looking strangers xxxxxxxx

So relieved
Thank God you are reunited with toothbrush and other contents of luggage. Meant to endorse travel pillow in earlier comments. My life saver - ten minutes in the broom cupboard flat on the floor, head supported by travel pillow, sets me up for hours. Much less conspicuous than walking into broom cupboard with feather pillow. Less good on aeroplanes though. Makes head too upright. Ah well. Takes all sorts.
