Forget about the hot water
Okay..made it out of Panama City and travelled for a night to Chitre. The bus ride was $7.50 per person and about 3.5 hour ride. The hostal for $10/night. It was a little loud, but we managed to make it through the night! The suicide shower (cold water) was a little scary, but we are still alive. There was a great little church in the center of town. The bus ride from the city was air conditioned and quite comfortable. We are getting by for now with our weak Spanish, but wonder how people that don´t know any can survive! We met another couple traveling from the states. They were from Seattle and are taking a year to travel with their 5 yr old.

After staying a night in Chitre, we caught one local bus to Las Tablas (very cute town, may stop on the way to Sante Fe) and then a second bus to Pedasi. (About $5.00 total and 2.5 hours) We fell in love with the town. It is relatively clean compared to the big cities. There are not many buses that travel this way and it is definitely not a touristy place. We are staying at Dim´s

Hostal and feel very safe and welcome here. It is interesting observing how the locals get the bus and, when a new passenger gets on, they always say "buenas" to people that are already aboard (can you picture that in a metro city in the US?). They are actually small vans and will stop for anyone along the way if they need a ride. The bus gets very crowded. John sat next to the door and became "door man" for those who got in. The bus dropped us off in front of the hostal. We slept very well as it was air-conditioned and much quieter than the past few nights. Dim´s hostal also includes breakfast at your leisure before 10:00. We got up to enjoy eggs, toast, good coffee and an excellent surrounding. They have built a huge palapa around a mango tree and they cook and serve breakfast underneath it. After breakfast we walked to the beach. We went through town, started off 8:30 near playa El Garita and walked to Playa Arenal. Round trip we are thinking maybe 6 to 7 miles. The beach was ablsolutely beautiful and had nobody on it. We found it amazing that such

a thing still exists. We meandered back into town around 1:00 and were very hungry. We stopped at a little restaurant for some pizza, but apparently, the teenagers tending to the stop didn´t know how to make it. We gave up and settled for rice and beans and chicken...again. Not so bad, but good thing we saved the brownies from the flight. We are back at the hostal relaxing for the evening and thinking of returning to the beach again tomorrow.
At the store in town we found some mystery liquor that is very inexpensive so we decided to try it. Muy bueño with grape Gatorade, lime juice and ice. Finding ice is another story that you must ask us about when we get home.
Well gonna jump off here as the pics are taking forever to get on here.
Will try and just on again in a few days after Sante Fe hiking.
We miss you all and look forward to the great messages we are receiving.
Chow!

Predictable
It's nice to know no matter what country you're in cocktails rock! It's nice to have the countdown done and living the dream. Sounds like next year you may want to spend a little more time on your espanol. I like a place where 2 bucks gets you all that food! You guys have fun and have a Merry Christmas. Unless you lose track of the days and miss it :)

We cannot believe how much food you are able to get for 2 bucks. Amazing!!! Looks like it could be fun, but the shower (not to mention cold shower) looks dangerous. I do not think I could survive. It is mother nature against us and unfortunetly mother nature wins in my case. Merry Christmas to the both of you and stay safe!!! Your friends, Robin and Lisa
