hello from el bolsón!
i finished up with my exams on december 7 and i took off the next day for bariloche. i spent the night in bariloche where i ran into a girl from claremont mckenna college that i had a spanish class with freshman year...small world. the next day i took off for el bolsón and i have been here ever since!
i wish i could post some of the amazing photos of the gorgeous landscape here, but i cant figure it out with the hostel computer. i did stay at a farm-hostel the first two days, and helped out a bit with the other volunteers, then i took off on a hike up a mountain called Piltriquitron, and stayed the night in a refugio (cabin) at the top where i met an israeli guy who i hiked to the peak of the mountain with the next day. The views from the mountain were absolutely breathtaking. the area is full of mountains, valleys, rivers and lakes, and is about the climate of washington or canada. the israeli guy told me about a cool hostel in town, so here i am, and its been fun meeting people and going on day trips with them. Yesterday i went to a lake and today i hiked to a rock formation that is supposed to look like an indian´s head.
my friend leah from the study abroad program arrived today by bus, and we are going on another hike to a refugio tomorrow that is supposed to have very beautiful views of the Rio Azul.
Well these words really dont do justice to what ive seen here. so ill just have to post photos when i get home.
Its been a great experience traveling on my own, and realizing that i really can do it. People are surprised when i say im twenty years old or that i went on a 6 hour hike on my own, but i really think it just takes a little confidence to be able to be comfortable enough with yourself and the environment around you.

Im heading back to Bariloche on Sunday to spend a couple days there and head back to Buenos aires on Dec 20, only to hop on another plane home on Dec 22. Ill say my goodbyes to the people ive become close to and the city ive come to call home. Its been everything i thought it could be, and i think because of that, the goodbyes wont be so hard, and i will be ready to come back to my other home. I arrive in seattle on Dec 23. Ill be overwhelmed but ill be smiling, happy to be surrounded by the people i care about and have been so far away from these past months.

thanks for reading. stay tuned... dont forget, mexico is still to come.

love to all,
maggie
