columbians
My Columbian Girls, Yanna and Sonia Ok so it feels like ages since i have updated my blogs but i have finally got my act together. Buenos Aires is an awesome city i have been here for just under two weeks and have been living it up. I flew into Buenos Aires from Ushuaia with Moira and checked into my hotel. That night we met up with others from our tucan tour that where using buenos aires as there stop off before heading back home. I met everyone at the obolisco in the center of town... (eventually the town was a bit more disorientating than i expected...and i turned up half an hour late). Anyways i was good to see everyone for the tour one last time and as always we feasted on slabs of steak and copious amounts of wine.
(i don´t remember if i told you guys but the steak here is massive! for instance when the cook carrys the meat around the kitchen he holds it at sholder height and it often touches the ground.)
The next night I went out alone to a tango show which had been pre-organised...it was actually very good possibly one of the best parts of the
La Boca
La Boca trip so far and it didn´t reek too much of those touristy places. The show had of a flaminco/guacho (argentine cowboy) influence in some parts along with an evita section, some opera kinda singing, and lots of fit women tango-ing around in tight outfits very hot.
The next night it was off to my new hostel which was a bit of a relief as you don´t really socialise too much in a hotel full of spanish speaking people.
So the Lift in the hostel didn´t work the internet was crap and the air conditioning didn´t work which was bad considering it has been a scorching 35 degrees... but all that said i loved the place met heaps of people in the bar down stairs and hit it off with a group of columbian girls. and what followed where numerous nights of partying hard.
The columbian sisters sonia and yanna were awesome fun with sonia acting as my personal interpreter when we went out to dinner and some Argentine rock pubs.
On the wednesday we had tango lessons so now i have a basic idea of how crap i am. but again it was pretty good and
Tango show
Tango show the columbian girls could dance pretty good so i didn´t look so bad. after the lesson we followed the gorgeous tango teacher to the tangorea. (unfortunately no pics but i can tell you she had all the boys in the hostel drooling).
Thursday was a pub night at gibraltor (check out the sign i had to get a photo)
Friday we went to a missive club called Pacha. Looked like a massive mansion and was packed out full of raving Argentines, me and the english boys which i had met from the hostel left the club at 7am and it was still pumping...then again it only really started at 2am.
Saturday was Opera Bay which is probably one of the best venues for a club i have seen. Some locals said it resembled the opera house in sydney with the gigantic sail type shaped roof but i couldn´t see it. Another night out till 7 too bad my check out the next day was 10am...
it was actually quite bad as i had to check into my language school residence at 11am. anyways as usual i slept in till 1pm and caused my self a world
Gibralta Pub
Gibralta Pub of hurt trying to arrange to get a key to an apartment i have never been to in spanish...it´s sorted now so don´t panic!
currently doing my spanish course and living in a residence with a bunch of brazilians so yeah having a great time.
I will include the story of my visa debarkel perhaps for any fellow travelers reading this blog.
disclamer - yes i am not the brightest chap and i´m sure i could have got it right the first time by doing a bit of research but it makes intersesting reading and perhaps a lesson to another traveller.
day 1 - look for visa office ok so the consulate of brazil in Buenos Aires (recoletta) is like 20 blocks from the place i am staying in san telmo...which is a long way when you walk is in near 40 degree heat. yes there is no brazilian consulate sign out the frount...mabey i should have taken down that address rather than marking it on the map. As with most consulates though it does have a flag...although as the consulate is on the 5th floor so is the flag making it a little
presidents house
presidents house the seen where evita addressed the city of Buenos Aires more difficult to spot.
day 2 - get there at the right time The consulate god bless them only process visas between 10-1pm and don´t think about turning up on a weekend that would be crazy.
day 3 - have the right documentation Yep i made it only to find out that you need to pre-buy entry and exit tickets in and out of brazil
day 4 - just do it in iguazu Apparently when i was about to book my tickets in and out of brazil if i go to the consulate in iguazu it is much easier and you don´t need the tickets (technically).
Anyways the blog is absolutely mammoth and i still havn´t told you guys everything. Probably the best city i have ever visited it would probably be better if i could speak spanish.... i have order meals that have been way to big or totally not what i wanted many times but it´s all part of the fun.
anyways i had to get it all down and up to date whilst i had a decent PC.
Adios amigos
