Guys - sorry for the delay in updating our critically acclaimed blog! Do you know that Vogue magazine in Italy have contacted Chiara for permission to use her articles? Well thats another story... back to New Zealand. We have been here about a month and have had a superb time in this fantastic country.
Our first decision on arrival was how to travel and after much deliberation we opted for a campervan for a month. After spending 2 days in Auckland we collected our high roof Toyota Hiace complete with fridge, sink and 3 ltr automatic engine - very important for the non left hand side drivers among us.
We first headed North to the beautiful Bay of Islands where we sailed and went looking for dolphins. Unfortunately we saw none mainly because the water was very choppy but we have a free pass to go to the same company again. The following days we went right up to the Cape Reinga on the very top (and saw nothing due to the driving rain) and back down through some magnificent pockets of Kauri forests - trees thousands of years old and which are now a protected species.
One
highlight of the North Island was when we went rafting in Rotorua. There are 6 people to the raft plus to guides. Chiara being the lightest was riding shotgun with another English girl enjoying the view while Philip the heavyweight was placed in the rear for ballast. It was great fun especially the waterfalls which we went over - one a massive 7 mtrs after which Chiara was completely submerged.
Lake Taupo was our next stop and a relaxing one with a Thermal Resort as part of our campsite and nice views of the Huka Falls.
We arrived in Wellington a day before our ferry across to the south island and so had just a day to enjoy the capital city. Arguably one of its main attrations was the Te Papua Mueseum which was an impressive piece of architecure and as we were lacking a bit of culture gave it a go. It was a superb place with many interactive displays and celebrating all that is New Zealand while also offering shows such as 'Eqypt - Beyond the Tomb.

il giornale Vogue in Italia ha contattato Chiara chiedendo il permesso di usare gli articoli?! Beh, e' una lunga storia, torniamo alla Nuova Zelanda. Siamo stati nell'Isola Nord circa 10 giorni e come sempre li abbiamo passati stupendamente.
Appena arrivati la prima decisione e' stata su come viaggiare e dopo lunga discussione abbiamo optato per noleggiare un camper per un mese. Dopo 2 giorni in Auckland la nostra avventura e' iniziata con il nostro Toyota Hiace completo di frigo, lavello e motore 3l, ovviamente automatico, essenziale per l'autista abituato al lato destro.
Lasciata Auckland ci siamo diretti verso la fantastica Bay of Islands dove ci siamo imbarcati alla ricerca di delfini. Purtoppo non ne abbiamo visto nemmeno l'ombra a causa del mare mosso, almeno ci hanno dato un buono per rotornare gratis. Il giorno seguente ci siamo diretti a Cape Reinga, l'estrema punta nord ( e visto nulla a causa della pioggia torrenziale e nebbia) per poi dirigerci verso i fantastici scenari della foresta di Kauri che sono giganteschi alberi millenari divenuti ora una specie protetta.
Una delle esperienze piu' belle l'abbiamo fatta a Rotorua dove abbiamo deciso di fare rafting. Nel gommone eravamo 6 piu' le
2 guide. Chiara, essendo la piu' leggera' e' stata messa davanti con un'altra ragazza inglese, da dove potevano godersi il panorama, mentre Philip, il piu' pesante, e' stato messo dietro tutti. E' stato divertentissimo e pazzesco, soprattutto quando abbiamo saltato da una cascata di 7 metri in cui Chiara e' stata completamente sommersa.
Il lago di Taupo e' stata la nostra seguente fermata dove ci siamo rilassati alle terme del nostro campeggio con vista delle cascate Huka.
La nostra ultima tappa nell'Isola Nord e' stata in Wellington dove ci siamo fermati per un giorno per poi imbarcarci sul ferry per l'Isola Sud. Il nostro soggiorno nella citta' lo abbiamo speso quasi interamente in un'enorme museo, il Te Papua, con differenti esibizioni sulla Nuova Zelanda o con artisti dello stato e....italiani non ci crederete, gratis.
