Ferry Ride
It was really windy and this canadian couple were like it would be a really cool picture if the wind blew me off the side of the boat. So I forgot to mention in the last blog about my costa rican experience with the fucken banks there.
So when I first arrived I had to try and track down an ATM well theres hundred of banks all over the city but none of them worked. So that night I thought I was gonna go hungry until this guy from Melbourne staying in my dorm whom was also traveling the world bought me dinner and a beer. I didnt even catch his name, nice guy.
Next day I went inside a bank only to be told that ATM´s dont accept all cards and it depends on the bank weather they take only visa or master card. That was lame.
Also on my first night at the Hostel Pangea in San Jose I met this older man in his 60 by the name of Gary. We were sitting in the TV room not watching it, it was more like background noise. Who the fucks travels hundreds of miles away and then sits in front of a TV that retarded. But people do that shit.
So Gary starts the usual travel questions where are you from? where are
Trail up to Gary´s
This is one picture you´ll have to come back to or remember what it looks like. you going? where have you been? how long are you traveling? blah, blah, blah..........He´s from Idaho and builds fishing boats and loves to surf so he bought a house in the pacific, and was in San Jose for a dentist appointment.
To make a long story short I wasnt sure where I was going to go in costa rica but I was dying to leave the city and head for the beach. Gary invited me out to his place since I hadnt been to the pacific and said it would be cool. At first I was hesitant cuz he could turn out to be a rapist or something, so I said I´d think about it.
I took down his info and I looked up the weather in the caribbean and it would rain for the next week but the pacific looked really good. So with $24 (14 colones) in my pocket I set for Mal Pais.
So the next day I left my belonging at the hostel ofcourse I had to pay for my last night in San Jose in order to leave my stuff there for the next 5 days. I went to the Coca Cola bus terminal really and go my self into more retardness.
While waiting to board the bus, this very ugly guy from belgium black teeth and sweating like a mother fucker comes up to me. I´m sure he could see the face I was making at him cuz he smelled like shit. So he asks me the same travel questions and I really didnt want to talk, but he goes on to say he needs a favor. And I was like, so whats up? He tells me he needs help with spanish and want me to bargain with the bus driver.
Apperantly he had just bought a motorcycle and would follow the bus to Mal Pais, cuz just like Gary he was in his 40´s and loves to surf and bought a house there. Well he looks at my stuff and asks if all I´m carrying is my small packback and I was like, yeah, why? So he says to me, ´What if you say its your stuff and I´ll give you money? And so I said to him, whats in your bag? And he responds with, your american right? At that point I was really annoyed and I was like, ¨Dude I dont know you and you want me to say that your stuff is mine so that you dont have to pay, the least you can do is open you bags just to know what the fuck is inside.¨So he opened he bag and there was a shit load of condoms, and I was like, Ok, its cool!
So throughout the ride I would occassionally look out the window and there he was riding along side the bus, like he said he would. Everyone now and then he would smile and wave at me with his black smile, it was gross. Then at a stop the driver approches him and asks why he´s following the bus, and the guys says, ´my girlfriend is on the bus and I´m following her to Mal Pais, because all of our stuff is on the bus.´ After an exhausting 6 hour bus ride we get to Punta Arenas.
At Punta Arenas we get off to buy our tickets to board the ferry to take us to the Nicoya Peninsula. So he tells me what he told the driver and said if it was cool that we hung out together on the boat. I had no choice at that point. I was trying really hard not to talk to the guy, especially after he took his shoes and socks off. Whuuew!
After an hour and a half we get to the peninsula and back on the bus for another 2 hour ride down shitty roads to the tip of the peninsula.
I got off at the city of cobano to use the ATM and still no luck. So we got dropped off at a cross roads. MAL PAIS to the left and SANTA TERESA to the right.
So I take off really quickly to Mal Pais and away from the smelly belgium not knowing where I´m going. Cuz Gary´s directions are vague. It was something like I live behind the ICE 2nd house on the left. ICE turned out to be the telephone tower.
So I ask this guy to walk with me to find this place and he says ok. Halfway down the road we find a tower with a road that went up a hill. And I tell the guy to wait for me at the bottom while I check it out, and I start counting the houses and find Gary outside. I yelled back at the guy to let him know this was the place and he took off.
I was very surprised at what I saw next.
