After the exertion yesterday it was time to leave Zermatt and head into the middle of Switzerland by …….. 🚅 We caught our first train via the wonderfully named Visp to Montreux. A brief wait then before catching the Golden Pass train to Zweisimmen where a replacement train then took us onto Spiez. This lovely town is situated next to Lake Thunersee and our hotel was a 10 minute walk - downhill 😉 - overlooking the lake. A beautiful location and our room had a balcony with a view of the castle 👍 2 nights booked here so we came up with a plan to visit Bern and Thun the following day. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and a short walk to suss out boat times.

After breakfast we caught the boat to Interlaken, zigzagging across the lake then finally entering the canal which allows ships to bring goods to the town and passengers to the station. Next we caught a train to Bern and had a walk around plus a walk up the tower in the magnificent We then headed to the charming town of Thun with a wooden covered bridge over the Aare river and a castle completed in the 12th century overlooking the town. Another train took us back and we took an early evening walk around Spiez before dinner at the hotel again.

Again we were blessed with amazing weather and our Swiss Pass meant free travel all day so w3 got our moneys worth 😉

Next stop (& blog 👍) Luzern
