I returned by bus from Bocas to Panama City (actually it's a ferry plus a bus) and stayed overnight at Panama City. Next day I was taking a tour to San Blas Islands.

San Blas is a collection of 365 islands (some as small as a single palm tree, many uninhabited) on the Caribbean coast in Panama. These islands are inhabited by the Kuna people who are an indigenous tribe. In fact, in these islands, the Kuna not only retain their identity and way of life but also their laws apply. The fact that there is a space for this tribe to live their way is heartening (the Kunas had to fight to get this right). At the same time, the rising sea levels have put these last 50,000 or so Kuna people at risk. When it comes to climate, we are all connected, even if we choose to ignore the connection from time to time.

Some people do a day trip to San Blas, but that's really hard because it's almost 5 hours each way to get to San Blas (again a shuttle and a ferry). So best to stay 2 nights on the islands.

I had

an island hopping tour but I stayed only on the Ina islands. These are what I would call as barefoot islands, you do not need shoes when you are there. The waters are stunning, the vibe relaxed, the people sweet, the food simple. It's one of those places where you can get away from it all.

Apart from Ina Island, we did a day tour to a sunken island (it's a strange feeling to walk in the middle of the ocean in knee deep water) and saw the island where an episode from Money Heist was shot.

To me San Blas was paradise, but more because it has an authentic feel to it because of the Kuna people. And I hope this paradise remains thriving and not get consumed by rising sea levels anytime in the future.
