That’s what we think of South Carolina! The trek through it seems so long and boring. No billboards to read…..nothing but big pine trees line the route. Cory took route 26 east to I-95 south…95 is just as boring and bumpier! The old RV jumps and rattles with every rough patch he hits. No wonder all the screws loosen up and the metal clasps break! Our new friends we met at Red Bay in May had a liquid suspension installed in their RV…..now that’s the way to go! We have Koni shocks and Safe-T-Plus but still my innards are getting jiggled all over. My body feels like a human washing machine. Up until now, the roads have been very nice and not much construction to contend with…..all pluses. I guess I better stop my whining…..suck it up, Buttercup!
Where shall I begin? Time to share our trials and tribulations. Wouldn’t be normal if we didn’t have something to deal with and write about.
On the first day of our trip South, I was injured! Yup!HOW you all must wonder. I’ll tell you. I was stung by a hornet on my finger! OW!! It was flying around in the RV
and I grabbed it with a Kleenex……squeezing hard and what I thought was to death. Nope! It stung me right through the hankie before it took its last rotten breath! OW!! I flushed that sucker down the toilet. The pain, The pain! I grabbed an aspirin, soaked it and applied it to my wound. Ahhhhh. Relief. I lived! Feel sorry for me? I hope so.
I already briefly hit upon our next problem when I posted the note stating we had stopped for the night at the Candy Hill Campground in Winchester, VA. Now, I’ll go in-depth with the juicy details. Dutiful Cory went outside to do all of the hookups like he always does. I hollered to him that the water pressure was only a trickle. Rats! He came in an checked it (he always checks my observations). Yup! Just a trickle. He went back outside to check it all out. Changed the filter (which he had done in May). Still nothing. Tried it with no filter. Nothing. After studying everything related to this water system, he found no water was going into either our “City Fill” part or our clean water holding tank! Rats! He jiggled the
handles, etc. Nothing! Of course, all the mechanical workings are behind a big panel in the water compartment. Now what? We put our issue on our Facebook site called “Tiffin Motor Homes Technical Forum. “ We received some appropriate and helpful suggestions…..all mostly saying we need a new check valve. Cory called Joe Rossi cause he thought he had had a similar issue. His was different but he offered some ideas also. Good Joe! After some contemplation, we decided to try and find an RV repair place to help us out. Hah! We called one place and they were booked until October! Called another…..same scenario! Jeepers! Time for Plan B! Called Tiffin and Cory ordered the parts he figures he will need. We called a couple of the mobile RV services that we have had come to our RV at Tropical Palms in the past. Best we have so far is an appointment on Sept.23rd when one can come out. In the meantime, Cory has been watching YouTube on how to fix this problem. He’s thinking he may give it a try once he gets the parts. He has his work suit he’ll put on. Oh, God…..where are you, Art
& Dave, when we need you!! So that’s the plan. In the meantime time, it is not a life or death situation. We use a bucket of water for the toilet. Our water pump still works so we can use the water left in our holding tank until that goes empty. The campgrounds have showers so we don’t have to just get ripe and stink. We have handi wipes and bottled water. We can eat out so I don’t have to wash dishes (Thank you, God). I’ll use the laundromat instead of my new washing machine…..haven’t used it yet! What’s a few more weeks? As we said “it could always be so much worse”.
Couldn’t get our TV cable to work. “Art, Where Art Thou?” Used the local antenna which was fine. Cory will try to get it straightened out once we get to TP. We may have to FaceTime Art. Please be on standby.
We stayed at a very nice campground last night: Carolwinds Wilderness CG. Right on the border of NC & SC. They have a big amusement park there…..we didn’t partake. But…we did order food for delivery at our campsite. It was from an Italian
restaurant. Cory got spaghetti and meatballs with meat sauce and I got penne and meat sauce. They also baked it on the top. It was fabulous! Extra delicious! Huge portions so we can enjoy it again. We ate until we couldn’t squish anymore goodness in! And now we wonder why we have to add bungee cords to our seatbelts to make them fit!
I think that covers most everything so far. Of course, we still have a ways to go. Just entered Georgia as I write this. Will plan to spend another night on the road before we glide into Tropical Palms tomorrow.
I know, I know….you all are wondering about Lulu. Well, as she has grown older, she is less ambitious than she was. Rather than riding cockpit in our RV, she has found sleeping on the bed more to her liking. So much easier for her…..she only had to drop her head! What can I say? She has a mind of her own. She probably won’t be out and about as much either. She couldn’t get a Covid shot…..no place to get it except in her neck which she refused. I’ll do the best I can
to get her up and going for you but don’t hold your breath…..she’s dealing with an empty dance card!
Hey….it’s almost like I don’t have a clue of what I’m talking about. No-no…I can hear what you are saying! Anyway….Cory stopped at the Georgia Welcome Center Rest Stop. I elected to stay in the RV to keep writing this blog….And to keep Lulu company. Cory went in….trying to walk off his meatballs from last night. He returned 20 lbs lighter….haha….just kidding obviously. He said what a beautiful building it was and how it had a special faucet in the restroom that also dried your hands right after washing them. Wow! This I have to see. Lulu heard us and bounded off the bed. She wanted to see this also….even though she couldn’t use it. You know why……(no hands). Amazing that she had a momentary awakening and became her old self again. Once inside this huge building, it was photo op time! So many wonderful displays for Lulu to show herself off in. She loved it! Photo after photo I took. I even got a photo of the unique faucet. What a treat. See? Somethings in life are FREE and
this place was one of them. Put it on your bucket list!
Back at the RV, we see we are faced with our next issue! Oh, God! What?? Lovebugs….the horrible lovebugs are out and clinging to the front of our RV. Nooooooooo. Remember we had our Diamond Shield removed last year cause the stupid lovebugs made such a mess of it? Well, here they are again. Rats! Cory has a job ahead of him tonight when we stop. He has to get all their dead bodies off our RV! We don’t need anymore problems because of them. Sometimes nature in all its glory isn’t as great as you want it to be…..especially when it comes to its insects! Death to all lovebugs…..just not on our RV!
That’s all for now. One more day of fun and frolic. So glad you are with us. At last we have each other to talk to. Stay in your seats…..the road is a bumpy one! 16 photos to see.
