We arrive
A bumpy cab ride through dusty streets of Isla Muheres Romance on Isla de Mujeres.
Romance filled the air as Jim, Mindy, our grandson Kalin and I disembarked from the high speed jet boat to the sandy beach of this tiny island off the coast of Cancun. We were suddenly thrust into a time warp where life was slow and easy. Colors so vibrant and glorious greeted us at every turn. We made out way through the busy waterfront street at a snails pace navigating with rudimentary Spanish. Actually Jim’s Spanish was pretty good. A clunky cab bounced up the gravel street to the hotel with its open door which let straight through the lobby to the Caribbean Sea. A cool breeze chilled our hot sweaty bodies as we entered.
Forty or so of Matt and Jenny’s friends and family arrived at different times over the next few days until soon our swimming pool was filled with happy smiling faces of the people we have known and loved for years.
The wedding itself was held at a beautiful private beach club which was reserved from noon to midnight. There were three cascading Mayan type swimming pools, a white beach, an open air thatched massage area, a dinning

Ocean breezes invite our arrival area with small tables covered with white linen. and a fabulous buffet filled with island specialties. After an afternoon of playing in the water and sand, the sun was setting in the west as we prepaired for the wedding.
When the Mariacie Band arrived, and the guests were assembled Charlie and I escorted Matt down a red carpet to a trellis covered with lace and flowers. Jim was grateful for the honor of escorting Jenny down the isle.
Jenny was elegant in a soft fluttering white sleek gown and veil. Soft blue and turquoise, dusty pastel rose and pale yellow filled the sky. The lapping of the waves and the Mariachi's sweet serenade filled our senses.
A minister with sparkling blue eyes and lovely German accent began the ceremony. Tears of trickled down my face and joy filled my heart as I witnessed my son and his precious bride speak their promises. The elements of earth, fire, water, and air combined with the deep sense of love and joy, the gentle breeze and the fading light created a dream like glow as the sun slipped into the sea.
With rose petals in hand the bride and groom
followed by the wedding party and all the guests walked out a long weathered pier and dropped petals into the water as a symbol of love. Love between Matt and Jenny, our love for them, and for each other, love of the earth and love for all beings everywhere.
Matt and Jenny danced, the cake was cut and Mark the best man toasted the couple with funny susrprises. Evening blended into night as music and joy filled the air.
Many guests remained on the island for several days. Jim, Mindy, Kalin and I stayed for a week! We rested in the shade and walked down the sandy streets to shop and eat. The wedding was a gentle oasis in a busy life and a loving tribute to Matt and Jenny, two people we are blessed to call our children.
Vaya con Dios, Jenny and Matt. We love you very much.
