After a freezing train ride we pulled into Uyuni Station at 2am, we were met by a barrage of hostel touts who wanted to charge silly money for rooms. Allthough it was about minus 10 we opted to sleep in the station with the locals, tight us Yorkshire folk!!
A day was spent in the town arranging our 3 day tour and a slightly better nights sleep was had in our unheated hostel, mainly due to the mountain of blankets.

We set off at 7.30 am with 5 Irish folk we met the day before. Our Charriot was a 1980s Toyota Landcruiser that looked a little worse for wear. Leo was the driver and his wife Barbra came along to do the cooking.

Our first port of call was the train Graveyard. There were about 30 old steam trains just left rotting by the side of the track, it was quite an eiree place. Good fun to climb on and take photos though.
From there we sped onto the salt pan. How mad was this place miles and miles of salt perferctly flat and seemingly endless. Lunch was had on fish Island where we saw huge cactus's , some I recon about 25ft. After lunch we sped on accross the pan, allthough we were doing about 60mph the scenary never really changed. We arrived tired from the bumpy ride at our accomodation, It was dark on arrival, as you looked up towards the sky it was a blanket of stars truly amazing.

Day 2
We sped our truck through mtn ranges made up of volcanoes and passed by alkaline lakes full of flamingoes. In the afternoon the terrain changed to desert, large windswept rocks were dotted around the area. The scenary was like a set from Starwars, a vast inhospitable place where you wouldn't want to stay for too long.

Day 3
A 4 am start we drove in convoy at first our car in the lead, untill the other car froze oops.
Minus 20 again with ice on the inside of the car we battled on with our freezing feet. At nearly 5000m the guysers and bubling mud pools were a warmer if not smellier place to be (Eggy Sulpher Mud). From the guysers we passed by hot springs and coloured lakes. Ther is really too much to describe about this fantastic place so I will let the photos to the talking.
Till the next time
Pete
