We‘re really quite taken with Germany - people, landscape - it’s all lovely! Today we took a drive about an hour or so up the autoroute ( yes they do drive very fast - and faster at night ?) to Baden-Baden. Ooooo gorgeous town! First we took a leisurely stroll in the park (Lichtentaler-Allee) - famous for a real range of tree species - also smashing little river with heron fishing - and this is in the middle of town! It has horse statues and fountains everywhere.

Then walked along to the casino - obviously had to have a look inside - very tasteful gambling ( casino royale-ish) - if only we had a spare €1500 deposit to sit at the table!! close by was the opera house ( again so stylish) and then the Trinkhalle - a huge building with murals and pillars - the pump house for the hot water - and sure enough, inside this massive, ornate building was a tap with water pouring out at more than 40degrees - a bit of a surprise! (photos of building and tap below)

Couldn’t go to Baden-Baden without a trip to a spa - there’s loads around the town linked to hotels but this one was a general public one - superb - no need for the Blue Lagoon! http://www.carasana.de/en/caracallaspa/ We spent 3 happy hours being pummelled by water jets and waterfalls, slowly poaching in hot pools and even floating around a flume.

We had noticed some very smart tables, umbrellas, cocktail bars etc and a concert stage been set up in front of the Casino and it appeared there was a free concert each evening this week - so, we went along - well, imagine Wimbledon does pop concert - super stylish food, drink and not a bad group either - all Uk covers !

Long drive back later that evening - and super speedy German drivers flying up the outside lane - but great day and really recommend Baden Baden for ladies weekend away - does Ryanair fly there?
