First day of my trip: both flights were on time, I caught the bus from the airport to Reykjavik (45 minute ride), found my AirBnB, and spent the day exploring Reykjavik. I'm having difficulty pronouncing anything. For example, my AirBnb is on Kjartansgata. I got dropped of on Hateigsvegur. Oh well, most people here speak English so I just show them the map and point to where I want to go.

First stop today was the Hallgrimskirkja, the iconic church that is visible from all over Reykjavik. I went up the tower to get a good view of the city.

Next I walked through center of town and stopped by the Volcano House. I saw 2 films about volcano eruptions on Iceland. There is a rift zone that goes through approximately the middle of Iceland, which means part of Iceland is on the North American plate and the other part is on the European plate. The rift zone widens so Iceland is getting bigger and the volcanoes are very active. The 2nd film was particularly interesting to me because Eyjafjallajökull erupted while I was trekking in Nepal in 2010. This eruption shut down air traffic in Europe for about 5 days. Most of the people on the trek were stuck in Katmandu with hundreds of other people and it was complete chaos. Lucky for me I flew home via Singapore.

On my way to Happy Hour I stopped by the Aurora House. Lots of good information about Auroras, photos, films. I asked about the possibility that I will see Aurora Borealis while I'm here and she said the chances get better towards the end of August. I hope so, would love to see it.

I went to Happy Hour at a brewery, half price beer for $7. Everything around here is so expensive. $7 for a beer is a bargain. I stopped by a Fish & Chips place for dinner and a fish burger and orange juice was the equivalent of $21. I hope Greenland is cheaper.

Tomorrow I meet the Greenland tour group at the domestic airport (10 minutes from here) and I'll be in Greenland for 14 days. I have no idea what the WiFi is like there so don't know if I'll be posting every day.

I included pics that I took at the Volcano House and Aurora House.

Fabulous!
I understand the air is so clear up there you can see for literally miles and miles. It would be great to catch the AURORA Borealis. I hope you get glimpse. Enjoy!
