all right loved ones,
i know it has been a while and a lot of you are kinda worried...but you have to remember i am a fuerte mujere(strong woman).
so what have i been up to the last couple of weeks? well alot!!
Firts off Cuba is amazing and feels as though i have connected with a missing link within my soul. super strong!!
after flying into havana on nov. 2nd i stayed one night and took the bus bright and early the next day to Trinidad...the photos will probably say more than i can. i stayed in Trinidad for 3 days...i went to the disco and are lobster and went horse backriding and found waterfalls and friends that i can´t believe i have lived this long without. Trinidad is a gourgous city, it only has about 60 thousand so it was definately a good place to get comfortable with cuba (havana has une million) big city!
after finding family we went to cien fuegos..hung out for a night and partied...drank rum smoked cigars and sacrificed a goat for dinner(that was really intence, but it is very sacred and it is a very religious experience for them, i guess it was for me to)
then we went to ciudade de avilia and stayed with my boy rauls dad for a night. another beautiful city and they sacrificed a pig there, it was rauls little cousins 8th birthday.
then we went to santa clara and went to the che gueverra museum and memorial...that was amazing but i wasn't allowed to bring my camera inside. we hung out in santa clara for the day but did not sleep over, we drove back to havana where i stayed for over a week. havana is an amazing city but i would not of wanted to be a tourist without local connections. the boys saved my alot of money!! cuba really milks tourists like no other place i have ever heard of before.if something costs 5pesos for a local it costs 15 for a tourist, there are no hostels. there are just casa de particulares...which are basicly people who get permits to let touristins stay...and you cant fint them for under 20 dollars a night. although i ended up staying with rauls family and his mom took me under her wing. she was a cook in a restaurant for 25 years, and man can that women cook..i really got to experience home cooked cubana food....yummm!!!
cuba is an extremely poor country, much more than i had thought, and because it is communist people can't really get ahead.so thats were tourists come into affect. there are a lot of hustlers and thiefs...thank goodness i was taken care of..but if it wasn't for this family i easily could of fallen victom.i saw it happen to others.. and because of this dynamic the government has made it iligal for locals and tourists to hang out...so there family put there neck on the line. everyday the boys and i hung out we were harrassed by the police and one day raul even got arrested for walking with me and i had to go to the police station and voutch for him.
on another subject, che is everywhere in cuba...he is within everyone and it is amazing.
i fould tat everyone i came in contact with extremely motivated and inteligent, i think that when you have so little everyone just grasps on to what the can and because of the political and musical influence, everyone just oozes it.
i have fallen in love with havana and the malicon.the malicon is like havanas virsion of vancouvers seawall, it is amazing. of and that city doesn't sleep it doesn't matter what hour or day of the week. it is busy, mmm stimulating. oh and my god does havana have a good hiphop seen, i had know ideA!! UNDERGROUND.
I LOVE YOU ALL AND BELIEVE ME THEIRS MORE, but i am tired now and i don't know how to get my photos on again, lo siento!! the photos will come i will try tomorrow.
oh and ya baby, am i ever feeling the español.
