Ok Ok.....

It seems like all the e mails i am sending back home, must be portraying me to be having the worst time ever. Yes, it has rained more than i thought it would, the waves have been abismal and i have met far too many Americans and Germans than i would have liked. I have been hit in the head by my surfboard, eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner by every mosquito in Central and South America. I miss friends and family from back home and to add insult to injury, we even got robbed and had to spend 3 nights living with a certified wack job. However, despite all that i am still having a ball.

When i had dreams about this trip before i left, i would imagine constant sunshine, golden sandy beaches surrounded by palm trees. 4ft glass gently peeling round a right hand point, with one bikini clad beauty sat out back. I have held this dream for the past month. I have visited alot of places and met alot of people and i am realising that my dream may never become reality, and it will be a lonely 8 months if i spend the whole time trying to find it.

I have realised that if i start to look at my trip from a different perspective, i will recognise all the wonderful things i have come across. If the sun starts to shine every day and the surf comes up, it will just be a bonus. If is base the success of my trip entirely on the condition of the waves, i am going to be dissapointed for the majority of the time.

From my new perspective. I am starting to learn more spanish everyday. Im Meeting people from every nationality possible and eating wonderful food. I can practically live like a king and only spend the equivalent of a few pounds a day. I have even been taught the basic steps of salsa dancing, wiggling my hips in a way that only a white British male can. Surely if a fat lad from Yorkshire can do it on "Celebrity Come Dancing," it cant be that hard? The scenery i have seen has been amazing, and yes.... My tan is getting pretty good too!!!!

Long may our dreams become reality, even if we dont always realise them.

Adios

Johnboy

PS My ultimate dream for this trip still hasnt changed. If i make it out of a stand up barrell, i am going to go off!!!!!

First news in ages!
Hola John, I've just received 4 or 5 e-mails from you at the same time with different dates, so I don't really know what happened...¿? Anyway, take it easy, things are not always as we dream of them, the reality sometimes is different to what we expected, but that doesn't mean worse, just differen. I enterely agree with you when you say that you need to look from a different perspective, there are sooo many things you are learning with every single step you take...but you may not realize of that until the experience is over, or you stop yourself for a thinking. Surfing it'sonly a part of it, but not the whole...I recon you are doing it fine, so keep on enjoing it!!!! ¡¡¡Cuidaros y hasta pronto!!!

Must Do Better
"Live like a king and only spend a few pounds a day". It sounds just like when you come round my house. I'd be careful with your Goughie abuse. When you were at Uni, you too were a fat lad from Yorkshire! Thank god your spanish is coming along cos your grasp of the English language is bobbins. Hilary's red pen runs out everytime you post a blog or send an e-mail.
