We had another full day in beautiful area of Istria. We were up and ready to be picked up by 9. Toure drove us about 90 minutes to a different coastal town north of where we are, and it's on the peninsula. It used to be an island, but they filled it in, so now it's a peninsula. The weather was sunny, hot and beautiful. We walked around this town that is very reminiscent of Italy. Venice is actually not that far away, 2 hours by ferry. The streets are all small and wind up the hill to a church. We stopped at spots to look at art and other souvenir shops. We toured the church at the top and then made our way down the other side of the church. The streets are made of limestone and are very slick, so it is always an adventure walking around these towns. Now, Kirsten has traveled all over the world, and Chester has quite a few countries stamped on her passport too, so we have seen A LOT. But today we saw something we have never seen before. While watching the boats come into the port, one boat was filled with passengers
and we noticed they were, ummm, all naked. Yes, it was a boat of mostly naked men on a tour around the peninsula. We are not making this up and we have a picture to prove it.
After witnessing such an event, we decided to have a drink at the marina and then it was time to go inland to another town, Montuvon. Back in the car, which Chester has now renamed the "Nap Trap", we drove an hour inland to a medieval style town. While on the way, it started pouring rain, so it made perfect time for a stop at a local winery. Toure made some phone calls and the winner was Benvenuti. It was awesome. The rain picked up so we settled in and selected the 5 wine tasting menu with snacks. The snacks were great: goat cheese, breads, olives, proscutto. The wine was also incredible! We tasted a few reds and a few whites, and the woman explained everything they do there. It is a very small winery, but they are hoping to expand. They produce around 100,000 bottles of wine a year. Two brothers started it and they have 6 full time employees, and
bring in up to 30 during harvest time. Once the tasting was over, the sun came out and we were able to walk around the place and view the production.
With the sun shining, and the purchase of a few bottles of wine, we headed to Montuvon. It was another cool town with a church at the top of the town. We walked the streets and made our way into a truffle shop and tasted even more olive oil and truffles. More purchases later, we toured the rest of the village. It was small and quaint. It really turned out to be a wonderful day.
We had about an hour drive back to Opatija and Toure parked the car and we walked along the coast line and he explained the people in the walk of fame and we shared cookies that looks like a peaches. He explained how Opatija came to be a tourist town and the highs and lows of its history. Tomorrow is our last full day in Croatia. The trip has flown by!

Bad naked...
with nudity a common theme of recent blogs, you are sure to run across good naked sometime. I visited Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Slovenia in 2015 although I didn't sail. I loved it. Thanks for the memories, Maybe next time.
