We learned how to make 8 different thai dishes!
Well Chiang Mai was a huge city from what we were used to in Laos but it was still amazing. The city is an ancient city that is bulit with a wall and moat around it. It was an experience in itself being there for the festival. The number of hot air balloons with candles in them increased every ngiht we were there. In canada these never would be legal. They would sometime just fall from the sky dropping fire and landing in the middle of streets. Im suprised at least one building didnt catch fire. We walked down to the river on the night of the full moon and there was a fireworks war. I have never been so scared in my life. Fireworks were going off EVERYWHERE.

One night we were in Chiang Mai we went clubbing. That is the first time we have really been out the whole time we have been on the trip. All the other cities there was no nightlife and the communist government put us to bed by 11pm. Thanks goodness for thailand! We also took a really good thai cooking course for a day. We made about 8 different dishes and dessert.

The kings summer palace
It was all soo good. I dont think I have ever ate so much food in one day.haha

Also in Chiang Mai we explored the city a bit rather than just the festival. We went to a temple called Doi Suthep. It was on the very top of a mountain overlooking the city. It was antoher beautiful temple with gold umbrellas and many buddahs. There is definatly no shortage of buddahs or temples in Asia. Also on this mountain there was the Kings Summer house. It is a place kind of like bouchart gardens in victoria. We also visited a village called the mong village. We dressed up in their traditional clothing and took some pictures. It is very interesting to see the different ways of life for all these people..The trip up this mountain was horrible. It was in the back of a covered pickup truck. The roads were soo windy and it was hot out i dont think i have ever felt motion sickness as bad as this trip. Although the trip was long it was worth it. We then moved on to Pai!
