Lei'd!Lei'd!Lei'd!

Fresh off the airplane and lei'd by the first girl I see! :)
Aloha! which translates to breath of life for those who have always wondered. Glad that I have been able to leave the rainy weather behind in Vancouver and have nothing but clear sunny skies here in Hawaii. Didn't take long to get lei'd upon arriving here and 9 miles drive from the airport took around 30 minutes to complete since it was still rush hour when I landed.

During that time we were able to get a quick lesson in how to pronounce Hawaiian which is quite simple. The alphabet contains 12 letters: 5 vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and 7 consonants (h, k, l, m, n, p, w), and all are pronounced when reading a word. For those who know what muumuu's are it's not said "moo-moo" as most people say but "moo-oo-moo-oo".

Some other things that we found out from the driver is that Honolulu is the largest city in the world geographically now that the city limits were made to encompass the entire island as well as a good portion of the surrounding waters. This was done to protect the fishing areas around the island. We also learned that Waikiki is a man made beach

and that the concrete wall in the water is not to create a wave free zone but mainly to keep the waves from washing away all the sand. Even with this, they have to add sand every so often and apparently with the way the currents go around the island, the sand winds up on the north part of the island where the big surfing competitions are held and the surf can get up to 35 feet.

Waikiki itself is only 2 miles wide and 1 mile across but thats enough space for 123 hotels and tons of little shops. They have these ABC stores which have a little bit of everything from alcohol, souvenirs, food, clothes, etc. They are everywhere and one of the tour guides said the ABC stands for All Blocks Covered.

One of my favourite things, aside from all the chicks in bikinis 😊, has got to be the pineapple. Since they produce it on the island year round, it gets picked when it is mature as oppose to the stuff we get that ripens during shipping. It is soo juicy and sweet, I've had no problems staying regular here! 😊
