After Newbold we set out in day two - the first big day AND with three locks to navigate.

We left at about 10 and the wonderful Clive met us at the locks and acted as our personal tutor. Many of the locks have volunteers on hand to assist the tourists as well, especially in the weekends. Linda drove and I did all the hard work of opening paddles and gates and then closing them all in the right order, learning to carry my trusty windlass with me at all times. Too busy to take photos but we are going back that way so will get some then.

We got to Braunston but incurred the first injury on the way when I got savaged by a blackberry bush that I steered into - I did it on purpose so the Linda would take over, but don't tell her that.

Clive and Sarah called by for an ale at the Admiral Nelson and then we retired home for dinner, another ale and a round of cards! Braunston is a lovely little village - voted prettiest large village in Hampshire according to the local rag - so we have had a day at ease here on Sunday. But tomorrow we are back underway again.

We are getting quite comfortable aboard, we have a decent sized galley and living area, two double beds and a tiny bathroom. It has all the bits you need for a week away.
