Getting to know PE a bit

Yesterday we tried to visit the Nelson Mandela Art Museum, but it was closed. We managed to find a couple of other galleries and visited a wonderful city garden that was full of plants that you could only imagine coming from another planet. Today our hosts also took us to a nature preserve full of many more exotic plants and birds.

Our second night in PE, we attended a devotional meeting of about 25 people that included Christians, Hindus and Bahá’ís. The feeling of fellowship was very positive and quite welcoming. The hosts for this gathering were another Persian Family, Abbas and Sepi and their two daughters. As the evening moved along and we got to know them better, Abbas, who owns his own engineering firm, talked with me about a job working for his firm in New Guinea. However, it is a $100M road project, which is outside of my experience and training, and I told him I would be in over my head. He has some tenders (proposals) in for other projects more in line with my experience, and we agreed to stay in touch.

Last night in our accommodations, I was greeted by a 4-inch millipede in a suit of armor, next to the bed - which is a 4-inch mattress on the floor. Since I only want to share the bed with Bob, I evicted the millipede. Tonight I asked Bob what our wildlife adventure would be; soon after, we discovered a 5-inch slug in the bathroom, just waiting to be stepped on with bare feet. Aargh…

Bugs...sheesh
Mom, I am reminded of a story you told me about the vicious spider in the Philippines that even went after Papaw. I had one of those last night. Glad you have Bob there to play the knight and slay these irksome creatures. =)
