Can anyone suggest somewhere to stay for 2 older women travelling around Sri lanka from mid-February to mid-March? We are well-travelled; familiar with Thailand, Cambodia, Africa and India, but have not been to Sri lanka previously and would like to find somewhere away from the 'in-you-face' tourist traps, preferably with self-cater facilities (budget range). Having just spent 6 months dealing with illness of my elderly parents I really need a break, so somewhere on/or near a beach that's hassle free, quiet and friendly, but CLEAN would be ideal to start with, before we move on to explore more of the country. Just need to relax and chill out.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Reply to this hi
first of all without scaring you, its probably not the best time to be going to sri lanka because of the conflict going on =( me and my cousin were due to stop over on our way back from thailand but our families who had just came back from a trip there said avoid going there for the next yr!
If you do decide to go there is a beautiful eco resort called Kandalama which is near Kandy. Its unbelievable and just soo relaxing. I believe the pricing was reasonable too and you can choose to pay a little bit more and have breafast, lunch and dinner made for you! Other places you could stay in is Kandy, Nuwera Eliya to name a few. And make sure you go to Pinawallawe Elephant Orphanage.
Sri Lanka is a beautiful country, you will really enjoy it if you are still keen on going =)
Reply to this Hi,
Great decision to travel to Sri Lanka. Its a great place with so much to offer. As a start you might like to stay at beaches such as Tangalle, Unawatuna, Mirissa, Polhena to name a few ( One of the places would do all are great places.) The hotel will totally depend on your budget. Prices can range from $25 a night to $200 so that is something you will have to decide.
I personally know this very good travel company who is worth giving a try you can visit them at www.colombotravelbureau.com they are reliable & resonable.
If you have any other needs do post.
Cheers,
Reply to this We stayed both in hotels and guesthouses. The guesthouses were very neat and safe. There seemed to be lots of them available. (in Kandy)

Reply to this Hi,
Ella is a little village paradise in the central highlands of sri lanka.
The sole tourist attraction of the village is its natural beauty.
to exp lo Ella is an excellent base for trekkers or casual hikers re & discover the
surrounding countryside.
village is nestled in a magnificent valley peering straight through the opening
amongst an idyllic green mountain ranges, right down to the coastal plain nearly
1100m below.
An attractive scatter of pretty little guest houses with their flower filled gardens
in this vantage point of Ella with perfect climate soothes your mind & rest your day
to day anxieties.
Regads!

Reply to this Wer kennt den Reiseführer RAJA?

Reply to this If you go to Sri Lanka you may like to stay at Amangella in Galle, it has a swimming pool too. Or if you want to be near to the seafront, the Fortress is ideal.
