I have been refused a 6 month US non-immigrant tourist visa...are there ways around this?

I was planning on going to the US for 5 months but I was refused a six month non-imigrant tourist visa. As I will be staying near the Canadian border if I leave the US within my 90 day tourist visa and visit Canada, will I be issued with another 90 day visa when I re-enter the US from canada?
All advice gratefully receieved! My day at the Embassy was horrendous and I don't fancy spending another £60 (non-refundable!!) to re-apply. Reply to this

Try calling the consulate and speak with someone...

Also, maybe try getting a Visa to visit Canada and then visit the US from there??? maybe call the canadian consulate.
