Im off to NY in october and will be there for a few days before i join my Trekamerica tour to LA. Does anyone have any recommendation of good hostels in NY that they have stayed in - and also ones to avoid!! any info would be great as i could scroll for hours looking at them all, and still not know what they're really like.

thanks guys!

I have only stayed in one hostel in NYC. I stayed at the Jazz Hostel on Lenox (http://www.jazzhostels.com/). It actually wasn't bad. It's in Harlem, yes, but it's really only a few blocks from the subway and if you are with people at night, it shouldn't be a problem. There are some other Jazz hostels in Manhattan that were all pretty affordable (at least compared to what you could be paying for a hotel in NYC). The staff was real cool, and there were a lot of different people there. The showers were cold when I used them though, but the whole place was clean. Reply to this
