Hey all,

I'm going on a 2 week trip out to New England in a few weeks. I'll be stopping in some major cities like Philly and Boston, but eventually I plan on making my way north to Maine to do some camping. Does anyone have any ideas of good places to go see/stay at/do in that area? Much appreciation, thanks! Reply to this

I was in Maine several years ago and stayed about a week in the costal town of Camden. It was very much as I pictured the 'quitenssential' New England town to be like--small locally owned shops, sailboats docked in the harbour, rocky seashores and georgeous sunrises. Plenty of places to explore, antique shops, bookstores, ducks to feed...quite relaxing. I think I remember hearing that it serves as the inspiration for many of Stephen King's novels as he used to write in or own one of the cottages near where I was staying (but don't quote me on that). There's some camping and hiking at nearby Camden Hills State Park which emcompasses Mount Battie (technically more like a giant hill--easy day hike, and you get some fantastic views) but I've never stayed there overnight. I would definitly consider going back if I was ever up that way. Hope that helps! Reply to this

Maine has a ton of private islands. I have actually stayed on a few. Many have houses and therefore are not good for camping but if you look around you can find some good undeveloped private islands perfect for camping. just Google private islands and that will take you to a couple of good websites that rents them.
