I will be going to Florence later this month so I will check it out for you. Apparently the Uffizi gallery is well worth seeing - supposedly one of the world's greatest art museums.

Im here in Florence right now, and have been for about 3 days, and love it. Eventhough its been raining the whole time, well drizzling. This place is expensive for food, havent been able to find anything cheap yet though. Went to the Accademia today to see the David, its not cheap to get in but if your under 26 and with a EU passport you get in for half price, so ill use the 3€you save on the booking so you dont have to wait in line for hours. Going to the Uffizi tomorrow. Reply to this

it's a wonderful city and hope to the birth of renaissance. There's too many galleries and museums to cover in a short period of time and the Uifizzi can take days to explore it all. The great thing about the city is that there's a michelangelo or da vinci etc in many of the piazza's which is free to enjoy. Eating well isn't hard all over italy and just poke your head around the door of any trattoria and you'll see why. Accommodation is a little harder to find but apartments seem to be the big thing now. I used these guys recently and were really impressed apartments in Florence Reply to this

There is so much to see and unlike some cities the main sights are all quite close together. The main attractions are the Duomo (cathedral), Ponte Vecchio (the bridge across the Arno), the Palazzo Vecchio in the famous Piazza della Signoria, and of course the Uffizi and Accademia galleries.

Oh my God, Florence! Where do I begin? It's just beautiful and amazing! Florence was at the heart of the Italian Renaissance; this was the city where Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, donatello all got their start! There is a lot to see in Florence...I was there for 3 days and I didn't get to see everything! The Uffizi and the Accademia are supposedly not to be missed; you will see some of the greatest Renaissance art in these museums (sadly I did not get to go to these) but I've heard that it's best to book in advance because there is always a long line to get into the Uffizi. Sadly I don't remember the website where you can go to do that, but you can book ahead of time online. There are a lot of cool churches to see, there's the duomo, there's also Ponte Vecchio which was very cool. I visited the Palazzo Vecchio which was really cool and interesting and of course the Piazza della Signorina you have to see that. I also visited the Museu Bellago which was really cool...I visited that with a friend...very interesting museum with lots of Renaissance scuplture in it. There's also a really awesome indoor food market that you have to check out; it's really cool. There are also some inexpensive restaurants in the market there with some pretty good food. Finding a good restaurant should not be impossible to find in Italy, especially in Florence, the capital of Tuscony! Tuscony is wine central in Italy so there is some good wine that needs to be tasted and Tuscony has a really interesting cuisine! Sadly I don't remember the name of any of the trattorias that I ate at, but I did eat at some really good ones and they weren't that expensive. I know that there was a really good sit down pizzaeria that I ate at in the Piazza della Sigiorina that I highly recommend...prices weren't bad and the food was really good, but sadly the name escapes me. There was also a really nice clothing store that I remember seeing, but sadly the name escapes me as to where it was, but it was in a square where there was like a carosel...really neat store. Also there's a really good gelateria just down the street from the duomo and there was a good one at the end corner where my hostel was, the Archi Rossi; there was also a good trattoria down that street as well. To save money, eat at a trattoria, which is like an italian diner I guess, but also eat at the pizzarias where you can buy pizza by the slice (I know that there was one just down the street from the duomo in the direction of the Piazza della Sigiorina, same street as the gelateria that I was talking about) you can get a slice of pizza and a drink for 1 euro and the indoor market there in Florence has some very cheap places to eat at and the food's not bad. Well have fun in Florence and good luck! Reply to this

If you are going to Florence and would like to visit the Uffizi Gallery, you should book in advance. Otherwise they could have a long wait before you get in - especially at this time of year. To make a reservation call Firenze Musei on +39 055294883. For more information visit http://www.firenzemusei.it/00_english/uffizi/index.html.
