Thank you very much for your reward. It is great that you like the photo. The image was captured on a scuba dive at Tan-awan near Oslob on Cebu Island, Philippines. Here the local people feed the whalesharks from small boats. You can watch this from a boat, on snorkel or on scuba. The water is quite shallow at about 6 meters. The whaleshark takes a vertical position while feeding and since it almost touches the sand we can estimate the length at about 6 meters. We saw around 10 different whalesharks on the dive and it was a thrilling experience. Unfortunately whalesharks are endangered because of shark finning. Please spread the word, that nobody should support venues selling shark fin products. Reply to this

Congratulations Christian -- on both this and blogger of the week. Hope to see more photos and blogs soon.

On Shark Finning -- there is some momentum building Shark Finning Petitions gives a growing number of petitions.

The only thing that would really fix the problem would be if China outlawed shark fin soup. Reply to this

In response to: Msg #166588 Hi Dave, thanks for your nice comment. Actually the whale sharks are not dangerous at all. They only eat plankton and small fish, but their size is very impressive.

In response to: Msg #166595 hi Ali, thanks a lot. I hope China will outlaw sharkfin soup. To my knowledge they are looking into it. I have already signed many petitions against shark finning and manta finning and I think it actually does make a difference.
Cheers
