What are your opinions? How do they compare?

I've been a Canon fan since I started digital photography many moons ago. I started off with a Canon EOS350D which I have used both inside and outside of a studio with great results.

However, I've just recently bought a Canon EOS550D and I am really disappointed with it, I feel that both my old Canon DSLR and my little Canon A1200 Powershot actually take better pictures. Maybe next time I will give Nikon a bash, what do you think? Reply to this

When I was first looking at DSLR's (about 3 years ago) I was convinced I'd get a Nikon... Not sure why, must be something to do with brand marketing, I was sucked in somewhere along the way.

After doing plenty of research, and trying a few out I was still sold on the Nikon's... they just seemed to be built better. I wasn't too worried about menu systems and ease of use etc.. I'm a tech nerd and it doesn't take long to get used to something so I just figured that would come later.

After looking at tech specs though the entry level Canon's (that's all I could afford) came with way more than the entry level Nikon's and were only slightly more expensive so that's the route I took, buying a 450D. I still stand by my thinking that the Nikon's are built better, they don't feel so 'plasticky' but boy do I love my Canon. It has everything I need and now after a few years of use I can switch modes and scroll through the menu systems without really thinking about what I'm doing... I've also spent much more buckage on lenses, so am now locked into buying Canon's unless I want to sell everything and start from scratch again.

I think in a couple of years I will upgrade the body, and I'll almost certainly be buying a Canon again... I just hope it'll be as good as my 450D..
