Here is the story: Qantas grounds entire fleet

If I was a Qantas ticket holder and have a flight booked with them in the next few days, I'd be immediately looking to book tickets with another airline, this won't be resolved too soon. Reply to this

Update: Fair Work Australia (the independent government authority that handles disputes) met with parties and deliberated until after midnight last night. They have adjourned the hearing until 1400 today (another 6 hours away).

Here again is the story: Industrial umpire adjourns Qantas hearing

If you have a ticket, don't even think of going to the airport for the time being.

Note that Jetstar and Qantaslink flights are not impacted.

If anyone has been caught by this grounding, please post here and let us know what is your situation.

Latest news, the hearing before Fair Work Australia is continuing with no decision as of yet. Qantas have said that they will make a decision on tomorrow's (Monday) afternoon flights earlier in the day. Thus, we are still at least 16 hours away from any Qantas flights.

448 flights have been grounded, leaving 68,000 Qantas passengers without a flight to board. Reply to this

Fair Work Australia has terminated the dispute. The Federal Government applied to have the dispute suspended (union preference) or terminated (Qantas preference) and the ruling was delivered at 0200 this morning.

This means that Qantas flights will resume on a limited schedule from late Monday afternoon eastern Australian time (another 12 hours away). It will take a bit longer for all 108 planes at 22 airports across the world to be back in air as per normal. Here is the story: Qantas to fly after dispute terminated

Therre will now be a 21 negotiation period to resolve the dispute, at which time if it iis not resolved, Far Work Australia will make a ruling.

What this means is if you have a ticket for anytime on Tuesday (Australian time) you are likely to be flying again. Those flying on Monday will still face uncertainty, whilst others whose flights were cancelled may need to wait a further day or so for the backlog to be cleared. Reply to this
