Thank You for this. Can't quite believe my photo is the chosen photo considering there are far more incredible photographers on this site!!!!! Feeling rather special right now.

The photo was taken at the Udong mountains in Cambodia on the first day of the Pchum Ben Festival. This is the festival of the dead and hundreds of provincial Cambodians had flocked to the Udong mountains to give offerings of rice dishes, to pray, to be blessed by the monks and then to walk up the Udong mountains. We were the only westerners there and found this was something of an attraction itself. We were shamelessly photographed by the locals, which was wholly disconcerting particularly as I am used to being the one taking the photo. Before I took the photo I had just been to see a dead monk who had been shot a while back (they had kept his body in an air tight glass case and seemed rather proud of the deceased monk), I turned around and saw a lone monk hiding from the hot sun under his umbrella scurrying back to his accommodation. He was the only monk around as all the others were in the giant Pagoda waiting with hungry stomachs for their feast to start. Reply to this

Thanks for the description Jessica and congratulations again - really loved this photo. Just goes to show that not only can a picture tell a thousand words, but there can be an equal number of words (but not a 1000 in this case) that explains the story behind the taking of the picture.
