fundraiser to help out a local humanitarian NGO in SE Asia - our mission is to eat something weird and unusual in the 20 countries that we are visiting

We will be shortly departing rainy Vancouver on a journey around the world that will take us to 20 countries, before we finally return home to Australia. We thought we would do something different this time round and set ourselves a mission that could have a positive impact on people aside from just ourselves.

At each of the 20 destinations we want to find the weirdest, most unusual food and force each other to eat it, and capture the reaction on video. This could include buffalo balls in Canada, guinea pig in Peru and durian in Malaysia! We will do it if we can get at least 50 people to pledge $1 per country to do it. This will give you a year to set aside the $20 total.

Ultimately, we will end up in SE Asia and be donating the funds we have raised directly to a non-profit organisation there, via money and/or supplies purchased locally. I’m still researching to find the best organisation there to donate to, and suggestions are welcome. It will preferably be a local orphanage or humanitarian NGO, not a large international company like Amnesty International or the Red Cross, and we will make sure that 100%!o(MISSING)f the funds go to the people intended. If we can get at least 100 people to pledge we’ll donate a further $500 from our own pockets. We’ll have some sort of website and put all the videos on youtube to try and get more people to donate.

The reason is not just to raise money - it’s also to raise awareness about other cultures in the world and how other people live and survive with what they have. I always hear people say “oh gross I wouldn’t eat that, the are disgusting”, and I hate that attitude and want to change that. Not everyone on this planet has the luxury to eat what we can so easily buy from the frozen aisle at safeway or coles. Additionally, I've stopped eating meat for personal reasons since the beginning of this year, so this will be tackling some newly set boundaries.

We have some ideas of unusual and strange foods, but suggestions are welcome - however we will not be eating anything that's prepared inhumanely (so no monkey brains in thailand or snake blood in laos, sorry) or anything that is endangered or threatened (so no raw turtle eggs in costa rica). The list of countries we are going to is below.

If you are interested in pledging towards this cause, please private message me with the word 'yes' and your email address I can contact you on, and I'll add you to the tally - it won't be worth it unless we get at least 50 people.

Thanks for reading this, and I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.
