American Airlines SUCKS

why American Airlines is a terrible airline and should be avoided.

This is a post to warn everyone who ever flies to never fly American Airlines.

I was booked on a trip to Antalya, Turkey, recently through American Airlines and a few of American Airlines's partners. Due to weather delays, my first flight was delayed 2 hours so I missed my connection in New York. I was placed on standby to Madrid, which I succeeded in getting on, but unfortunately when I got to Madrid I would already miss all my subsequent flights due to the initial delay.

This is where it gets good. American Airlines rerouted me to fly through Frankfurt to Antalya. When I got to Frankfurt, I presented my boarding pass to the airline that American Airlines ticketed me for. This airline told me that American Airlines was mistaken in giving me the boarding pass, since they did not work with American Airlines. I was left in the Frankfurt airport, where all American Airlines personnel had gone home, and the phone number at the AA desk had no answer when called. By contacting people back in the states through an expensive pay phone, I managed to communicate enough with an American Airlines representative to have them tell me I should buy a NEW ticket to Antalya through another airline, since they did not have any flights to Antalya until the next night. I slept in the Frankfurt airport. The entire night cost me over $600 US for a new ticket and international calling.

On my way home, I flew with American Airlines and AA partners as well. They lost my bags. TWICE. The first time they located it in Rome and told me they would fly it out to my local airport. Then, when I called back after a few days of no news, they told me they had lost the bags yet again and had no information on them.

I have emailed the American Airlines customer relations about my situation and demanding a response. I did not receive one. This entire fiasco has made me convinced that this airline truly does not give a damn about its customers and has no problem whatsoever leaving them out to dry in a foreign country. whatever you do DO NOT FLY AMERICAN AIRLINES.

I repeat, they lost me, and then lost my bags twice. Fly with somebody else if you want to avoid this kind of bullshit.

That's an horror story.

As a general rule...best airlines in the world...asians...than middle east....than LAN group in South America....than European Airlines, than you go down to a group of South African/Ethiopian/Kenyan....than you've got americans airlines...and finally those you should not fly!

I know it's a general point of you, but it's quite my experience of a sad reality.

That's a pretty good analysis of airline rankings, it appears that American airlines tend to be rather awful, though I wouldn't say they're worse than Kenyan airlines.... Reply to this

Perhaps you need to take "FLYING 101". While airlines do have problems this all started with a weather issue, an issue that American Airlines had no control over. They made the correct decision not to fly in bad weather. If you are flying to a country where you must use multiple airlines, it is your responsibility to know the rules of those airlines, not American Airlines. Now about your "demands". Settle down a little and approach your issue with a rational request. Demand and cuss and cuss with get you an empty bag. If I was AA I would not answer you. Some people who travel by air think they should be treated like a king or queen. Forget it---you are just a paying passenger and sometimes you don't even pay very much for the ticket. Reply to this

Perhaps YOU didn't read my post very carefully, texaswillie. The reason I was upset with AA and find them culpable is not because of the weather delay; it's because of what happened AFTER the delay. This is all pretty self evident if you had actually READ THROUGH the initial post I wrote.

When they rebooked me in Madrid, AA airline personnel should have known which airlines they work with or not and rebooked me on a flight that I would actually have been permitted on. When one books an itinerary with an airline, that airline is responsible for getting you to your destination. I don't think that that is an excessive demand or asking to be "treated like a king or queen". No passenger should have been treated the way I was treated by American airlines, and legally they are responsible for the damages incurred by their mistake.

Next time you respond to an internet forum, try to actually read the whole post before making some half-assed, irrelevant reply. Reply to this

Agree! they are horrid and they genuinely do not care if you are happy or distraught. I had a business trip which included 2 flights to and 2 flights back. I am still presently waiting to board the 3rd flight in the itinerary. The second flight to the destination was delayed over 3 hours (almost 4 in total) due to maintenance issues. This one is delayed due to maintenance issues - this will be a four hour delay at least and another delay to catch a different flight. That is 2 out of 3 flights that have been delayed due to maintenance issues. Oh by the way... to bad for you. They don't even try to accommodate you in any fashion. They truly just don't care. It is stunning. Reply to this
