Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day (Canadian French: Jour de l'Action de grâce), occurring on the second Monday in October, is an annual Canadian holiday to give thanks at the close of the harvest season. Although some people thank God for this bounty, the holiday is mainly considered secular.

No photos, no stories.... I thought Canadian Thanksgiving might be a big deal, in Canada? Reply to this

Thanksgiving is definitely a big deal in Canada! We just don't blog about it! :P

It's really just a day where we get together with our families and have a big wonderful turkey dinner! Though it's traditionally supposed to be about harvest, not very many people look at at that way, and instead we just celebrate from the perspective of time with our families. It's early fall here, so the leaves are changing and it's getting crisper outside, and there is just something amazing about Thanksgiving Sunday. It's the warmth and the smells and the delicious food and the closeness with the people you love. Our family has a tradition where we go around the table and say what we're thankful for, but it's not at all a "god" thing.

Thanksgiving Sunday

Is it always on a Sunday? Reply to this

The actual holiday is always on a Monday, but most people do their family dinners on Sunday because it's nice not to have to get up early for work the next morning; we like that extra day off! :D Reply to this

Strangely, I cant remember doing anything for Thanksgiving when I lived in Canada for a year. A few people invited me to their houses for Christmas, but I dont think anyone did for Thanksgiving. Reply to this

Well I had a great Thanksgiving Weekend-it was our first North American and Canadian tradition and we celebrating by feasting on great food and lots of alcohol!
