I finished an epic journey along old Route 66 earlier this year and had a total blast. The best advice for anyone planning a trip is to: 1) Take a car, the iconic motels along the way are part of the experience. 2) Check out www.urwurld.com/travelguide/United_States_of_America_Route_66/ for a free detailed map along with excellent stops to make along the way and 3) Don't forget to bring along some of you favourite music to sing along to in the car!
We did it in 8 days - which broke the trip right up and gave us an opportunity to really check out the locals towns and landmarks along the way.
Already planning the next run... 😊

Hello Jodie 😊

Is route 66 the one that features in the book 'On the Road' by Jack Kerouac?

Hey Mel,

Hmmmmm - I have no idea, after googling it I don't think so, that book looks like it was about a bunch of different road trips. 😊

It's been a number of years since I read On The Road, but believe they only traveled parts of it. Jack and his crew generally wound up in San Francisco traveling back and forth to I thought his mother's home somewhere in southeast US (it's been awhile so trying to recall all the stops).

Route 66 is Chicago to Los Angeles. Since I remember a passage of Jack and crew in a jazz club in Chicago bet they traveled a bit of it while hithcing and jumping trains across the country.
