The Grand Canyon national park is about 300 miles from Vegas, it would take approx. 6 hours. The nearest point is Grand Canyon West which has got glasswalk and few other points. It's about 120 miles from Vegas.

Either you can take tours from Vegas or drive down by yourself. Driving would take 3 hours since roads are pretty bad for some part.

The most economic tour from Vegas will start from about $200 PP. Tours run only during weekdays, Mon-Fri and it is advised to book in advance. If you are more comfortable driving down, you can also stop by at Hoover Dam on your way. Both Grand Canyon West tour and glasswalk cost $75 PP, which takes approx. 1.5-2 hours.

I would recommend to drive down and visit the place during weekend since it would be less crowded.

Let me know if this info helps

We actually did this very thing last year on a weekend. We left Friday morning from Vegas and stayed the night in Williams AZ. Williams is about 50 minutes away from Grand Canyon South...which is the most well-known part of the Grand Canyon. We were thinking to see the Skywalk but after some research we realized we don't have time to see both West and South and decided to only see GC South since it's the most famous.

We drove from Vegas and stopped at Hoover Dam for about one hour (decided not to do the tour) and took pictures. Then we stopped next in Tomah, AZ for lunch....we have one daughter...she was two at the time so we couldn't go too far without stopping. Then we drove to Williams which is a great little town.

If you want to only see GC West and the Skywalk you can do a day trip. However, if you want to see GC South you need about three days...one to drive there and spend the night, one full day in the park (it's really worth it...every minute of it) and one day to drive back...we had to drive all the way to Los Angles...so it took us about 8 hours from GC South.
