Hi everyone, I was planning a trip to Canada with my family. I don’t have much idea on that place and I am still preparing my plans to visit the country.

Hi everyone, I was planning a trip to Canada with my family. I don’t have much idea on that place and I am still preparing my plans to visit the country. I would like to know from the travelers as what are the places I should be visiting there and any suggestions and advices would be welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Hi John - Canada is a very large country. Is there any particular area or region you are planning to travel (western Canada, the Rockies, Quebec?). You will probably get a better response if you narrow down your question a little.

It's also helpful to know what time of year you'll be there as the weather can change suggestions people may have for you.

I love Vancouver Island, on the western coast of British Columbia, but I haven't traveled extensively throughout Canada so I may be a bit biased. Reply to this

When do you plan on visiting Canada?

Like Stephanie and Andras have said, Canada is a large country, stretching from east to west. On the west side, Vancouver is definitely the place to be! Beautiful weather, interesting sites, the Rockies and exciting night life....oh and the food! Plenty of restaurants!

Other must-visit cities, in my opinion are: Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Banff, Halifax, and Niagra Falls. There's plenty to do in each of these cities: historical sites (Montreal and Quebec City), cultural experiences & festivals (Toronto), shopping (Toronto & Niagra Falls), restaurants and bars (anywhere!), and breathtaking scenes (Niagra Falls & Banff).

If you're real adventurous, you could also try traveling up North to the Northwest/Yukon Territories and Nunavut. I personally have never been that far north, but I plan do plan on visiting soon. Adventures and the midnight sun!

The most comfortable and convenient way of getting around Canada is via domestic flights or the VIA Rail. I personally prefer the VIA because you could take advantage of on ground transportation and see the beautiful country along the way, from one destination to the next. It's a scenic ride. You could find schedules and good deals at http://www.viarail.ca/tickets/en_hora_intr.html or

Hi John!

Canada is beautiful and it's big cities can be exciting, but also expensive. You may want to read over the travel blog on this site. I'm not sure of all the information they have in it, but plan ahead. Another blog that I read might be helpful. It tells you about hotels in tourist area and how to save money, also how they add costs to your bill. http://vacationsavinginfo.blogspot.com/ Reply to this

Hi John

Canada is one of the most beautiful country in the world. if you like big cities/cities, do visit Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec city.

British Columbia and drive / train to alberta and East Coast are the best for wild and Nature. I was planning my trip to go to Nevada and California then I changed my mind until I got the Visitor guide from Newfoundland. I am going there for 10 days ... yay

I live in Edmonton and travel around Canada for work pretty regularly.

My suggestions are (starting from West Coast going East)

British Columbia:
- Vancouver (I've been to many cities around the world and Vancouver is by far my favorite. So much infact I am working towards moving out there in the future.)
- Victoria and Vancouver Island (One of the most amazing places on earth for scenery and hiking.)
- Kelowna (hundreds and hundreds of Canada's top wineries are here. We try to do a wine tour every year in this area, and I have never been to the same winery twice (other than Mission Hill because it is so good)).
- Nelson, Fernie, Kaslo area. A more wooded and less busy area.

Alberta:
- Edmonton (Biggest shopping city in North America. Biggest Mall in the world (at least it was last I checked).. Also known as Canada's festival city.
- Calgary (Cowboy culture. Lots of jeans and cowboy hats in a major city. And very close to the mountains)
- Banff (Sharing sidewalks with moose, elk, sheep, etc... can't go wrong with that. Not to mention some of the best ski hills in the rockies and world.)
- Jasper (Same as Banff)

Sasketchewan and Manitoba (SKIP THESE PLACES)

Ontario:
- Toronto (CN Tower and Niagara falls are all in the area.)

Quebec:
- montreal (Europe in Canada)
- Quebec City (if you don't speak english at least the history is there, but people will not be friendly)

Newfoundland
- St.johns (George Street, Cabot Trail, etc...) You can't miss this city and newfoundland in general. nicest people on earth.

Nova Scotia
- Halifax (very nice city)

I haven't been to the territories. If you want to know anything specific, feel free to ask. Reply to this
