Can anybody tell us which airport is closest to Winnipeg. We are near Sacramento airport, would this flight to Winnipeg be international, I would think so. Is it possible to fly in direct or must we stop at a midwest city like Minneapolis-St Paul, then to Winnipeg.
To make a long story short, here's what we would like to do. Sacramento to Winnipeg, Winnipeg to Edmonton, Edmonton to Calgary, Calary to Vancouver, Vancouver to Seattle, Seattle then back to Sacramento. What's the best way to acommplish this.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Reply to this Winnipeg is served by Winnipeg International Airport in the northwestern suburbs of the city. From Sacramento, there appear to be no direct flights. The most common stopovers are Denver and Chicago. Denver is a better choice; it's en route whereas Chicago is way out of your way. Via Denver the fastest flight time would be about 5 hours. Yes it is international and you will need to clear Canadian customs.
Consider using a variety of transportation instead of just flying for the other legs of your trip. For example, Calgary to Vancouver via train is one of the most spectacular train rides you will ever do. Make sure you get on the glass-dome ceiling train for the full effect. Also for both Edmonton to Calgary and Vancouver to Seattle, consider the bus. They are both only 3 hour bus rides, so it will be shorter and the price is a lot cheaper than flying.
Sounds like a wonderful trip. I would be pleased to answer any more questions you have about these destinations.

Thank you very much for your most excellent advice/information for our up-coming trip to Canada. We, my wife Holly and I will be visiting relatives in Winnipeg.
Read your travelblog with interest. We took a similar trip in 2003 with our daughter Stacy. It was great fun. I will certainly call on you again as my planning progresses.

Reply to this Bill, what would you recommend for our Winnipeg to Edmonton leg? Bus, train or fly.
Al
Reply to this For most people, I would recommend flying that leg. It's a 12 to 15 hour drive, through farms and the land is unrelentingly flat. I'm not sure exactly how fast the bus does it. You could do it in two days comfortably with an overnight in Saskatoon, but I think most people would rather fly. It's probably cheaper to fly, I'm not sure. Certainly most people would find the drive or train ride "boring".
Reply to this Bill,
Great advice, Thank you kindly.
Will talk again soon.
