Hi, i am from singapore. my first post here. 😊 firstly a warm welcome to everyone.

1) i am planning for a backpack/low budget trip in the east side of USA late or mid August 2006.

2) a few places that i would cover includes, Salt lake city, Las Angles, Las Vagas, San Deigo, Sanfransico...

3) i really dont know where and how should i go around to cover such places. My trip duration would be around 14-21 days. and my budget would not be more than 1,500USD . Wonder would it be enough?

4) would like to know the travelling distance and time and mode of transport from place to place. etc, from Las Angeles to Salt Lake City ...

5) which are some of the MUST SEE sights in the east side of the states?

6) temperature, during mid august, some of the must brings items or type of clothing i shld bring for the activites?

Many thanks thanks.. Reply to this

First of all, you're visiting the West Coast of the US... the East would be New York, Boston, Florida, those kinds of places. Budget travel in the US isn't exactly easy, but it can be done. I've replied to a few of your other posts, but didn't realize the budget. I don't think I would rent a car on that budget. Since our rail systems aren't what you'd find in other countries, traveling by rail isn't something to look at doing.

Also, something to think about. San Francisco is out of the way of all your other locations (and a good rail system within the city). If you are flying into San Fran from Singapore, I'd look for a cheap 1 way flight. I just took a quick look on Orbitz and found a flight in mid August (16th) from San Fran to LA for $125. If you rent a car you will spend much more than this, but you would get to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway, and stop at national parks and such. But keep your budget in mind. Similar prices can be found to fly to San Diego instead.

You can also use the Greyhound bus system. From LA to Las Vegas it's between $32-43 1 way. From Vegas to Salt Lake it'd be $53-55 1 way.

Mid August is going to be hot hot hot... ;-) LA, San Fran, and Salt Lake should be nice compared to Vegas. Vegas will be between 100-120 degrees fahrenheit. Reply to this

first of all- lucky you for going to be travelling there, i traveled in the area a couple of years ago, i wasn't backpacking but we rented a moterhome so it was pretty low budget- no restaurants, no hotels and so on, for keeping it low i would recommend national and state parks- especially if your into nature, it's usually cheaper to camp than to rent a room and there are cooking areas in some campgrounds.
if you'ld like there's a good travel plan- travel guide site called tripcart - you can look up different activities and attractions ideas, www.tripcart.com
have a great time
