Wedding trip in August to the states: Visiting Vegas, LA, San francisco and NY (long trip from Athens Greece to the states)
15 years ago, April 1st 2009 No: 1 Msg: #67853
Hi guys!!
I am planning for a big trip to the states during August this year as follows

Arriving at Vegas 4th of August and staying for 4 nights? (is that too long or is it ok?)
during that time we want to visit the Grand Canyon (any advice welcome... should we spent a night there? should we go with a bus tour operator)
in Vegas, we are thinking of renting a car, and use it to go around and also drive to LA and San Francisco....(renting it from Vegas airport to LA airport drop off). is that possible, to rent a car for inter state travel?
driving from Vegas to LA, which places are worth of visiting? we will have a total of 10 days until our flight from LA to NY.

then in NY, we will be staying for another 10 days... during that time, we are thinking of booking a ticket to visit Niagara Falls (2 days). i believe that this will be worthwhile...

please any advice and or recommendations are kindly welcome....

Irene - I answer some of your questions in your other thread. I highly recommend spending the night at the Grand Canyon. As I said in your other post, it's a long drive there, and to make the most of your experience, it's worth the overnight stay. No need to use a tour-bus - there are shuttles and guided ranger walks/talks within the National Park if you think you want more of a more structured itinerary.

It is possible to rent a car for interstate travel, just be sure to let the company you hire from that you'll be returning it elsewhere. There's an additional fee to do this, but can be worth the convenience.

Four nights in Vegas is a good amount of time - depends on what you're interested in, but in general, I'd say that's about right. There are plenty of shows and places to eat to keep you entertained.

Niagara Falls is one of the most visited places in the country for honeymooners. I recommend visiting from the Canadian side if possible. Reply to this

If you're camping at Grand Canyon, you should *definitely* make reservations for a site; it fills up very fast. Great place to spend a couple days though.

Hi Renagr8,
I am from Las Vegas, and while all of your ideas sound great remember that those places are not close.

The Grand Canyon is 5 1/2 hours from Vegas, L.A. is 5 (plus traffic which is crazy in L.A.), and San Francisco is 9 hours from Vegas.

It would be probably be cheaper for you just to fly to the California destinations, and rent the car just for the Grand Canyon excursion. But like the Sara above mentioned, everything around the Grand Canyon books up wayyy in advance, so make sure you book early!

As far as "what to do" there are a billion different things in Southern Nevada and Cali, check out Lonely Planet or your favorite travel website different ideas.

While in Las Vegas remember that most of the restaurants directly on the strip are over priced. There are plenty of cheap staples like In-N-Out Burger that can give you a taste of what the locals eat.

Hope that helps! Have an awesome trip! =) Reply to this
