Private hostel accom suggestions

My mother and I are traveling to the States for a month. With the decline in the Aussie Dollars value I'm starting to look at private hostel rooms as apposed to hotel rooms for some of our stay.

I've read on most hostel web sites that a private room is 'usually' a queen bed + own bathroom and in some cases there's a small kitchen. All we are needing is a double or queen bed to share and our own bathroom.

Can anyone suggest some hostels in Hollywood, San Fran & San Diego that are good in terms of private room facilities and rates?
