Hey,
To those who have not been or who are wondering about traveling to the beautiful coastal village of Nha Trang i have a strong warning for you.

We stayed (we being my tour group) at the New Sky Hotel or Thien Tan hotel
78 Hung Vudng - Nha Trang

And found this place to be the worst hotel in the whole tour that we did from hanoi to Ho chi Minh.
Not only do they play music from 5am without any disregard to complaints, nor do they stop the banging they do after many complaints they also do not include breakfast in their deals although they have a resturant on the top floor.

On top of this they steal and go through your rooms and bags while your accross the road for breakfast.
I came back from a breakfast to over hear two people from different floors and different tour groups complain that their money and bags where taken or gone through. And one of these persons was an american who complained that this hotel was in the lonely planet and things like this shouldn't happen!

I decided to check on mine and sure as could be all my money which was in my backpack was taken.
Two other members of my tour group had their bags gone through and moved looking for wallets, money etc...

The housekeepers said they didn't do it from the english we could get out of them.
The manager said that they have three girls cleaning the rooms so nothing like that can happen, but when i went up stairs to check mine there was the housemaid in the next room, and there was only one of them.
So makes me wonder how authentic the managers word could be.

Any ways after i insisted i search the maids and their quaters i was told the police will come and sort it out, what good that did.
After the police report, we found out this hotel has a history of stealing and everyone in the hotel is in on it and gets away with it.

I now accepted the fact the police wouldn't do anything and the hotel wouldn't give the money back,
so i thought i'd warn and inform as many people as i could about the workings of this hotel and to never stay there.

I am not saying Vietnam nor Nha Trang isn't worth traveling too just dont help these people to your money, becasue thats all they see us as westerners, that owe them something and its ok if they steal from us.....

Cheers,

Hi Nova13
I am the Newsky hotel Owner. I am sorry you much for happened with you in my Hotel. During that time I and my wife were in Hochiminh city. When I retured Nha trang you had gone out. I had investigated mysefl. Because police had no results. We can not catch red-handed thief, you see, but we had clasified staff and we have follow the picture:
-when you across the road for breakfast about 7 a.m (Travel guild did not book a breakfast at our restaurant on top of the hotel for your tour group} the thief had gone through your room. He knew exactly who went out at that time. And these happened sometime.
-In the staff meeting all we suspected about that receptionist, who warned you about "safe case" and traslated police. The police inspector said too. They asked me make the trap for him. But we can not wait for longer. Our reputation falls down. We gived him the sack. He had nothing to say at last.
-After that no more steel case in Newsky hotel.
I inform you all about this.
I apologize you once again.

While it's sad to see this happen to anyone, it does happen a lot. It happened to me as I was wearing my backpack! With that said, I do have a few things to say about your post.

do not include breakfast in their deals although they have a resturant on the top floor.

I have stayed at many places with restaurants that don't give away breakfasts, or any meals for that matter.

And one of these persons was an american who complained that this hotel was in the lonely planet and things like this shouldn't happen

While the Lonely Planet is a good reference, it's not going to be your guide to ultimate protection. If a place doesn't provide a safe place for your items, them you really should keep them on your person. If you are part of a tour group, seeing everyone leaving at once is a golden opportunity to a thief.

I decided to check on mine and sure as could be all my money which was in my backpack was taken

I can't imagine why you'd leave money in your backpack while you leave the building.

becasue thats all they see us as westerners, that owe them something and its ok if they steal from us

I find this to be a very ignorant comment. Thieves are thieves, be it in Vietnam, England, America or anywhere else in the world. If you're basing your statement about the war, I'll tell you that they are more over it than the US...

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience. There are hotel and hostel review sites that users can leave comments about their visits. Everyone should use those to judge the safetly of the place they are or planning to stay at. Reply to this
