A government sponsored project is destroying the famous lake in Phnom Penh.
BBC Report
Boeung Kak is home to thousands of families - many of whom own homes and thriving businesses serving tourists. The local government has leased the land to a property developer - a move residents say is illegal.
The lake is being filled for a shopping centre development. The report then explains that only a tiny part of the lake will remain after the filling and many families are being relocated to the country side.
I'm fairly sure that many of us who visited Phnom Penh stayed in one of the budget lakeside guesthouses - named "happy home I & II etc" - this is the lake - these are the people being affected.
Anyone have more information?

They only left a few token lakes in the Netherlands after they filled in most of them.
