Ideas of hiking routes in the desert

Im driving from LA to Las vegas after I finish football coaching in California and was hoping to stop off in Mojave national preserve along the way for a few days, any ideas of hiking routes and places to stay? we would rather not camp out but stay in lodges/cabins/motels.

cheers. Reply to this

Hi Andy! Here's a map of hiking trails in the Mojave Preserve. We've never done any of these trails but on all our hikes across the US found that the national park recommendations never let us down. If you're going in the summer you'll probably want a trail along the mountains/hills because it will be cooler.

If you don't have a lot of experience hiking in desert conditions, underestimate how far you can go. Carry TONS of water and don't venture off the trail. The Mojave desert appears endless in many places and distances are deceiving. Just driving through in the car we were getting dehydrated from sweating so much.

I don't recall there being any lodges/cabins/motels inside the preserve, so you'll probably want to try the cities (towns) on the perimeter, like Nipton or Baker. Reply to this
